|*How to Prepare to Study Father's Word in Order to Actually Learn His Word
There is a difference between reading Father's Word—the bible—and studying it in order to gain the knowledge that Father wants us to have of Him, of His word; and, of His Kingdom.
Yes, anybody—most anybody anyway—can read; and that is what most churches and lay persons tell us to do, "read the bible." There are even guides out there which provide outlines for "reading the bible in a year." Several years ago, since I had never read Father's Word in its entirety, I set out to do just that, read the entire bible, and to do it within a year. I was successful in that, I accomplished what I had set out to do, I "read the entire bible in a year;" however, in the end, I was left unfulfilled, and still hungry for Father's Word because, I neither comprehended or understood—for the most part—what I had read. Why was this? Because, Father's Word is like no other literature available. There are many, many Truths awaiting to be uncovered, if you seek them, if you seek them with a "new heart" meaning—as if you've never heard or read His Word before—and if you don't try and put "man's doctrines" before or above what Father's Word says.
An example of this is John 3 where Jesus is speaking with Nicodemus, and He is explaining to him how one can enter into Heaven: John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, "Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." —> Jesus is being very plain, simple, and direct with Nicodemus. He just told him that a person must be "born again;"—we'll check out this word "again" in a moment; however, for right now, I want to finish my thought for you—now, most "preachers" say that this phrase "born again" means that we must be born anew in Christ, in other words, to be a new person in Christ; however, that is not what Jesus was meaning. Let's now look at the word "again" in the Strong's Concordance to see Jesus' original intent of the word, in the Strong's Concordance, it is Greek Word number: G509, - ἄνωθεν, - ano then, pronounced - an'-o-then, and means: From G507; from above; by analogy from the first; by implication anew: - from above, again, from the beginning (very first), the top., from above, so, in reality, Jesus was teaching Nicodemus—and us—that in order to even be able to have the oportunity to enter into the eternity with Father, we must first have to have agreed to be born in this Flesh Age.
There were those angels who in fact refused to be born in the flesh, to be "born again," and on the day of Jesus' Second Advent, they'll not enter into His 1,000 year Millennial Reign; no, on the first day of His Millennium they get cast into the Lake of Fire and their soul will be no more. See, not only did they refuse to be "born again;" but, they also agreed to and with satan, to try and interrupt Father's Plan for His becoming Flesh in order to be our Saviour, and it is for this reason we read in Genesis 6 that the angels came and took wives of flesh man and mated with them producing the giants. For their refusing to be born in the flesh, for their standing with satan, and for their trying to corrupt the seed-line, the have no opportunity to enter into the eternity. This is what Jesus was teaching here in the beginning of John 3; not, as man would have you believe that, we have to be a "Born Again Christian."To listen to man and believe that line of thought, causes you to miss the entire point of Jesus' teaching, and if you can be deceived on that one line of teaching, what else has man been teaching you that goes contrary to Father and His Word?
To understand the Father's Word, you must prepare to understand it. You cannot just sit down and read it verse after verse, without actually thinking on each verse, and trying to understand what Father is trying to convey, or what is actually taking place in the verse. You also cannot just open it and start reading anywhere,--you in a sense can; but, understand what I'm trying to say--you have to understand that within each Book there are Chapters, within each Chapter, there are Subjects, within each Subject, there are verses. Understanding this is part of the "rightly dividing" of His Word that Timothy taught us we must do in the Book named after him: II Timothy 2:15. Each of us who have been taught to read, have also been taught how to read. You cannot look at Father's Word and try and make it "fit into what you want it to mean," it is His Word; and therefore, it has His meaning.
So, how do we prepare to read--with understanding--Father's Word, you might ask? Of course the simple answer is to seek Father prior to opening His Word to study it, and that is what we have to do: seek Him. First, pray to Him and ask Him to open your eyes,--your Spiritual eyes, though you don't have to tell Him that, He'll know which eyes you're asking Him to open--then ask Him to open you heart and mind, to feed you with His Spiritual Meat, ask Him to bestow unto you His Knowledge of His Word, His Understanding in His Word, and especially for Him to pour out His Wisdom upon you from His Word, that you might be able to gain what He wants you to know.
See, Father is looking to see who truly cares enough about His Word to commit themselves to study it, and for that in reality there is a one word answer to this question--How do we prepare to Study His Word?--: DESIRE!!! If you don't desire to understand it, and if you don't seek Him and His Holy Spirit, you'll never understand His Word. You must be in the proper mind set to study, to gain the knowledge from it that is there for everyone to partake of. You must adopt the doctrine of Christ while putting off the commandments, doctrines, and traditions of man, as Jesus told His disciples in Matthew 16. Before we get to the verses I want to read, let me first set the stage, so to speak, in verses Matthew 16:1-4, the subject and the events are that, the pharisees and saddducees have come to Jesus seeking a sign from Him, they were trying to "trip Him up," as they were always want to do. The Subject then reads thusly: "Matthew 16:1-4 EFFECTS. (Introversion.), 16:1 Sign desired., 16:2 Discernment. (Positive.), 16:3 Discernment. (Positive.), 16:3 Discernment. (Negative.), 16:4 Sign refused.". Then, beginning with verse v16:5 the subject changes, and the subject for verses v16:5-12—the verses I'm concerned with for this part of our study—are thus:
16:5-12 TEACHING. (Alternation.)
15:5 Bread. forgetfulness.
Matthew 16:5 And when the disciples were come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread. —> Were come to the other side=Jesus and His disciples had just borded a small boat and crossed over to Magdala.
When Jesus and His disciples reached Magdala, His disciples--becoming a little hungry--realized that they hadn't brought bread to eat. The word bread here in the Strong's Concordance, is Greek word number G740 - ἄρτος, - artos, pronounced - ar'-tos, and means: From G142; bread (as raised--meaning leavened--) or a loaf: - (shew-) bread, loaf.. So, we see that indeed, they were talking in reference to actual bread; however, in a moment, we'll see the topic change from "bread" to "leaven," and by leaven Jesus will not be referring to the leaven which makes bread rise; but, a different kind of leaven.
16:6 Leaven. Warning.
Matthew 16:6 Then Jesus said unto them, "Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees." -> .
16:7-10 Bread. Remembrance.
Matthew 16:7 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, "It is because we have taken no bread." -> .
Matthew 16:8 Which when Jesus perceived, He said unto them, "O ye of little faith, why reason ye among yourselves, because ye have brought no bread? -> .
Matthew 16:9 Do ye not yet understand, neither remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets ye took up? -> .
Matthew 16:10 Neither the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets ye took up? -> .
16:11 Leaven. Instruction.
Matthew 16:11 How is it that ye do not understand that I spake it not concerning bread, that ye should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees?" -> .
16:12 Leaven. Instruction.
Matthew 16:12 Then understood they how that He bade them not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees. -> You must allow the Holy Spirit of God to lead you in your studies, closing your flesh eyes and opening your spiritual eyes. Don't look for little messages or try and fit the scripture into something you want it to say, which is what a lot of preachers do when they preach their Sunday sermons. You must conform to the Word, not it to you; for you to make it fit and conform to you, places you above He whose Word it is. Allow Father to be the Potter that He is while you be the clay that you are in His hands. Let Him mold and shape you, don't be hard hearted by the traditions of man.
So many Christians are satisfied with the salvation message that they never want or get any deeper into Father's Word than that level; but you must mature and want to leave the milk and grow into the meat. I Corinthians 13:10 But when that which is perfect (mature) is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. When I was a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. -> You must allow the Word to change you. I'll give several examples of this: one is what Father has done with myself, the other two are what others must come to realize they too must do; (and no, I am not yet totally perfect, and no also, I am not puffed up about this.) (1) Every fall I couldn't wait for the football season to start, football was the only sport from my youth that I still enjoyed watching. Two years ago when Michael Vick was caught and convicted of the heinous things he was doing with dogs (God's creatures,) I was completely saddened by what he was doing and extremely pleased when he was convicted, though I don't think his jail time was long enough nor do I think he was in a harsh enough prison. When he was released this year and asked to rejoin the NFL, I was disappointed the NFL Commissioner said yes, I was then hoping that every team would shun him, and was absolutely stunned when the very team I followed picked him up and added him to their roster. It was then that I knew it was time to walk away from football. You have to understand our Father, He IS IN CONROL of all things, He ensured this happened, to show me to leave the worldly things behind and more closely follow Him. And this is what we must do to come to full maturity. Do you think the apostles followed the things of Christ and traveled from town to town to see the worldly things or did they go to teach the things of God and Christ? (2) There is a man I know who is in the process of becoming a "reverend" through a mail order ministry. Yet every month he continues to receive his prescription to a pornography magazine and daily renting movies through a movie rental wharehouse. I know this man is not alone, there are many other "Christians" out there that also do these same things or same kinds of things. If that cuts to the quick and hurts, sorry, but it's time to put away the things of this world and put on the things of God. (3) There also is a young lady who lives in California, who also professes to be a Christian. Right after the 2008 Presidential election, she stated that she voted in support for California Proposition 8, which added an amendment to Article 1 of the California Constitution, "Only marriage between man and woman is valid and recognized.", but yet she voted for Barrack Obama in the 2008 Presidential election. She doesn't even realize that by voting for Obama (he supports homosexual marriages, abortion, etc...,) she cancelled out her own vote in support of Prop 8 and her other Christian values. She voted with the flesh and not in the spirit.
Some may think that I digressed with my examples above but, I did not; I presented those to show that we must feed the spirit man and NOT the flesh man.
We must be as instructed in Matthew 9:16 No man putteth a piece of new cloth unto an old garment, for that which is put in to fill it up taketh from the garment, and the rent is made worse. Neither do men put new wine into old wine bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved. -> As long as you continue to cling to the traditions of man, you too will break when Christ tries to fill you with His truths. If we are "stuck in the flesh" not ready to accept the teachings of God and Christ we will be as "old wine skins" and burst when Christ tries to instill His doctrines into us.
"See" what Jesus did in John chapter 9: John 9:1 And as Jesus passed by, He saw a man which was blind from his birth -> from his birth to show that when Christ gives him his sight, nobody will be able to say, he was able to see before, so this is no miracle) (it is also symbolic of us, we too are born spiritually blind and it is Christ that gives us our sight. And His disciples asked Him, saying, "Master, who did sin, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?" Jesus answered, "Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be manifest in him. I must work the works of Him That sent Me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world." When He had thus spoken, He spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and He anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay. And said unto him, "Go, wash in the pool of Siloam," (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing. Christ IS able to perform miracles and heal the flesh so that everybody can see that healing, but you must have you spiritual eyes open to "SEE" the true miracle of this healing of the spiritual eyes being opened.
