I CHRONICLES CHAPTER 6

Our last Chapter, I Chronicles 5, continued bringing us more of the collateral of the posterity of the 12 patriarchs. It began with Jacobs first born, Reuben, and quickly noted that the birthright was not bestowed upon him because, he had defiled his fathers bed by uncovering his fathers nakedness, in other words, he had had intercourse with his fathers concubine Bilhah; therefore, the birthright went to the oldest born to Rachel: Joseph.

The Chapter then continued on with direct and collaterali.e., cousins, nephews, uncles, and suchdescendants of Reubenwith the strong possibility of the kenites and or nethinim having mixed inthrough the remaining verses, to verse 5:11, where it then changed over to the lineage of Gad. Again, some of the names we already covered in the previous 4 chapters; and again, as I mentioned in our last Chapter, some of the names we read had different spelling in the Hebrew. This is due to the fact that in the Hebrew language, there certain vowels which are written out in fullthis is known as a plene (from wikionary). Where they are not written out in full, they are called defective. The fact of this difference in The Books of The Chronicles shows an independant origin. That origin became obvious from I Chronicles 2:55 where we read about the kenite scribes having already taken over the duties of the keeping the records in the temple, and of teaching the people by the time of the coming out of Babylonian captivity. Again, this became obvious from reading Ezra 8:15 where we read that the Levites were NOT part of the group of our forefathers who were returning to Jerusalem; but, were of those who decided to stay in Babylon instead. Ezra tried to change that by sending for more of the Levitical Priests; however, he erred when he sent a kenite nethinim back to Babylon to get the Priests. Oh dont get me wrong, that kenite did what he was supposed to do, he got some of the Priests, 20 of them, but at the same time, he also brought another 200 kenite nethinims with him.

We saw the kenite scribes hand at work in the remainder of the Chapter and all the Chapters up to I Chronicles 9:44. I say this because, as I have researched these names in this Chapter, I noticed that there is no rhyme, reason or logic to the order of the names or families, thus they have caused confusion, Babylon. This confusion actually began back in I Chronicles 2, immediately after verse I Chronicles 2:17 where it lists Davids sister Abigail bearing Amasa. We saw further evidence of this confusion, as I previously said, throughout the rest of that Chapter.

That, then, brings us to current, to I Chronicles 6, which opens with the direct and collateral descendants of Levi to verse v6:49, where well see it switch over to the sons of Aaron.

With that introduction being said, lets go to Father and ask Him for His Blessings on our Study of His Word: Father, we come to you right now to thank you for inviting us to Your table in order that we might be able to partake of and receive Your Spiritual Meat, and Father, as we prepare to dine on the sustenance which sustains our inner man, we ask that You Oh LORD open our ears and eyes, that we might be able to hear and see your Truths, open our hearts and minds and prepare us in order that we may receive Your Truth. We Pray for Your Understanding of Your Word, we seek Your Knowledge in Your Word, and most importantly Father, we Pray for and desire Your Wisdom from Your Word, in Jesus Precious name we Pray, thank You Father, Amen.

6:1-3 The sons of Levi.

I Chronicles 6:1 The sons of Levi (attached; or, joined) (lay-vee); Gershon (a refugee; or, exile) (gay-resh-ome), Kohath (to ally oneself; allied; or, assembly) (keh-hawth), and Merari (bitter; or, bitter, unhappy) (mer-aw-ree).   —>   If youve never heard the phrase not all Levites are Priests; but, you had to be a Levite to be a Priest, this verse assists in explaining that because, it will only be through Kohath that the Priesthood comes through. Levis sons Gershon and Merari will assist and support the Priesthood; but, they will not be part of the Priesthood. Their assistance was especially noteworthy as our forefathers wandered the wilderness for those 38 years as, both the Gershonites and the Merarites were instrumental in disassembling, carrying, and reassembling the boards, cloth, hardware and such of Fathers Tabernacle.

Levi=Levi was Jacobs third eldest son, he too was born of Leah. Levi was 43 years old when his Father Jacob and the rest of his sons joined their brother in Egypt because of the famine. Levi was confederate with his older brother Simeon in exacting revenge on the Hivites for Shechems raping their sister Dinah, and as such, during the Blessing by their father Jacob, Levi received the same as Simeon. Genesis 49:5 Simeon and Levi are brethren; instruments of cruelty are in their habitations. [49:6] O my soul, come not thou into their secret; unto their assembly, mine honour, be not thou united: for in their anger they slew a man, and in their selfwill they digged down a wall. [49:7 Cursed be their anger, for it was fierce; and their wrath, for it was cruel: I will divide them in Jacob, and scatter them in Israel.. That being said; it was the descendants of Levinamely Gershon, Kohath, and Merari, then Kohaths grandchildren: Aaron, Miriam, Moses, and then Aarons sons and so forthwhom Father choose to bestow His Priesthood upon, Moses is included in this grouping as, he was Aaron and Miriams younger brother, and it was he whom Father choose to lead our forefathers up out of their bondage to the Egyptians. Yes, Levis descendants were indeed scattered throughout Israel; however, it was because they were the Priesthood and they became Fathers Inheritance: Numbers 18:20 And the LORD spake unto Aaron, Thou shalt have no inheritance in their land, neither shalt thou have any part among them: I am thy part and thine inheritance among the children of Israel. [18:21 And, behold, I have given the children of Levi all the tenth in Israel for an inheritance, for their service which they serve, even the service of the tabernacle of the congregation.   —>   There is no finer inheritance. During the Blessing of Moses in Deuteronomy 33 we read: Deuteronomy 33:8 And of Levi he said, Let Thy Thummim and thy Urim be with Thy holy one, Whom Thou didst prove at Massah, And with whom thou didst strive at the waters of Meribah; [33:9] Who said unto his father and to his mother, I have not seen him; Neither did he acknowledge his brethren, Nor knew his own children: For they have observed Thy word, And kept Thy covenant. [33:10] They shall teach Jacob Thy judgments, and Israel Thy law: they shall put incense before Thee, and whole burnt sacrifice upon Thine altar. [33:11] Bless, LORD, his substance, And accept the work of his hands: Smite through the loins of them that rise against him, And of them that hate him, that they rise not again.    —>   Levis descendants would become the High Priest and Priest line; and, as such, the High Priest would bear the Urim and Thummim, the two stones which in the Hebrew language means lights, and perfection. Lights in the manner that brought all judgments of gilt to light, and perfection for moral perfection, and thus, innocence. The two stones were part of the Priests Breastplate and worn in a bag which was attached to the Breastplate. When any legal decision needed to be made, the Priest had to be present, especially concerning land or of the such. The Thummim stone would be cast down and the way the stone landed determined innocence or guilt. If a moral decision was to be made the Urim stone was cast, and the pointing determined it to be yes or no, guilt or innocence. The decisions were made on yes or no, right or wrong, andthough this is a bad analogy, itll still put it forthit was sort of like flipping a coin to see what the answer would be; however, the reality was that Father had complete control over the two stones for, it was at His command that the Levites used this method to receive their answer, or judgment. The Levitical Priests were also Fathers choice that shall teach all of the tribes the full Commandments, Judgments, Laws, Ordinances and Statutes of our Father. Now, as to the numbering of the Levites in the Book of Numbers, the Levites were left out of the numbering of the House of Israel, because Father numbered them separately in Numbers 3 where we read their numbers were: 22,300 males a month old and up; but, in Numbers 4, their numbers were 8,580 ages 30-50. Levis encampment as they came out of Egypt and wandered in the wilderness, was in the midst of the camp, surrounded by all the other Tribes. The sign on Levis Standard was Libra, or more anciently the Altar. There is some controversy about the etymology of the name Levi, the Brown Driver Briggs (BDB) Theological Dictionary suggests that the name Levi was derived from the word Levite, instead of vice versa, and that the word Levite has to do with a Minaean word for priest. Another suggestion is that the name Levi (לוי) is derived from the name Leah (לאה) and means Weary, rather than something else. Harris Archer Waltke (HAW) Theological Wordbook of the Old Testament disagrees with this kind of strong disclaimers and (as does New Open Bible Study Edition (NOBSE) Study Bible Name List) derives the name Levi from the verb לוה (lawa) meaning join, be joined. This is the verb that Leah uses when she names Levi, Now this time my husband will be joined to me, because I have borne to him three sons (Genesis 29:34). Now from the Strongs Concordance, we find it is Hebrew word number: H3878, - לוי, - lêvı̂y, pronounced - lay-vee, and means: From H3867; attached; Levi, a son of Jacob: - Levi. See also H3879, H3881., and now from the Smiths Bible Dictionary, where we read: The name of the third son of Jacob by his wife Leah. The name, derived from lavah, to adhere, gave utterance to the hope of the mother that the affections of her husband, which had hitherto rested on the favored Rachel, would at last be drawn to her: This time will my husband be joined unto me, because I have borne him three sons Genesis 29:34. Levi, with his brother Simeon, avenged with a cruel slaughter the outrage of their sister Dinah [DINAH]. Levi, with his three sons, Gershon, Kohath and Merari, went down to Egypt with his father Jacob Genesis 47:11. When Jacobs death draws near, and the sons are gathered round him, Levi and Simeon hear the old crime brought up again to receive its sentence. They no less than Reuben, the incestuous firstborn, had forfeited the privileges of their birthright Genesis 49:5-7 [LEVITES]..

Gershon=Gershon was Levis first born son with his wife whose name is never mentioned in Fathers Word. Gershon is mentioned in 18 verses with 18 matches in Fathers Word, for the name and Strongs Hebrew word associated with it: H1648; all of them are either of him in the genealogical listings, or of his descendantsthe Gershonites H1649again, either in the genealogical listings, of them receiving their inheritance of land, or of them receiving their service of the Tabernacle. Of the man himself we know nothing about, except to say that he was part of the 70 Israelites who went down into Egypt to escape the famine which had encompassed all the land. We dont know when he died and returned Home to Father, or what age he was when he did so. Lets turn to Numbers 3 and read of the responsibility of Gershons descendants concerning their Ministerial\Priestly Duties: Numbers 3:25 And the charge of the sons of the Gershon in the tabernacle of the congregation shall be the tabernacle, and the tent, and the covering thereof, and the hanging for the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. Numbers 3:26 And the hangings of the court, and the curtain for the door of the court, which is by the tabernacle, and by the altar round about, and the cords of it for all the service thereof.   —>   The duties and responsibilities of the Gershonites were the safeguarding, the setting up and taking down, and the carrying of the tent, and of all the coverings of the tent and doors etc.; in other words, all the canvas\cloth items concerning the tent and thereof belong to the Gershonites. We can see the number of and(s) within these two verses (just like in Genesis 1, and many other places throughout Fathers Word) and can know that they are a polysyndeton; meaning, there is much more than just what is being said in these verses. We know that the Tribe of Levis encampment as they came out of Egypt and wandered in the wilderness was in the midst of the camp, surrounded by all the other Tribes; Gershons particular encampment, was behind the Tabernacle, westward. The etymology of the name Gershon is probably the same name as Gershom, derived of the verb גרש (garash), meaning to drive or cast out: The waw-nun extension denotes a personification of the root. Gershon means Expelled One or Exiled One, and the meaning may have more to do with the fact that he\his descendants were surpassed in fame by the younger brethren of Kohath, from whom descended Moses and Aaron, and then of course, the line of Fathers Priests. Now from the Strongs Concordance, where we find that it is Hebrew word number: H1648, - גֵּרְשׁוֹן, or גֵּרְשׁוֹם, - gêreshôn, or gêreshôm, pronounced - gay-resh-ome, or gay-resh-one, and means: From H1644; a refugee; Gereshon or Gereshom, an Israelite: - Gershon, Gershom. Total KVJ occurrences: 18.. And now from the Smiths Bible Dictionary, where we read: The eldest of the three sons of Levi, born before the descent of Jacobs family into Egypt Genesis 46:11; Exodus 6:16. But, though the eldest born, the families of Gershon were outstripped in fame by their younger brethren of Kohath, from whom sprang Moses and the priestly line of Aaron..
Kohath
Kohath=Kohath was Levis second oldest son, younger than Gershon and older than Merrari. We also know that he had at least one sister whose name was Jochebed, and whom his son Amram will marrythink of the age difference between Levis daughter who married her nephew, Levis grandson, who bare Aaron, Miriam and Moses, that made Aaron, Miriam and Moses both Grand-childrengrandchildren through Jochebedand great grand-childrengreat grand-children through Amram. It was through Kohath, then to his son Aaron, that the High-Priest line would flow. The name Kohath and the Strongs Concordance Hebrew word number associated with it: H6955, are mentioned in 29 verses with 32 matches in Fathers Word, all of them are either of him in the genealogical listings, or of his descendantsthe Kohathites, H6956again, either in the genealogical listings, of them receiving their inheritance of land, or of them receiving their service of the Tabernacle. Of the man himself we know nothing about, except to say that he was part of the 70 Israelites who went down into Egypt to escape the famine which had encompassed all the land. We know that Kohaths father Levi was born in 1749B.C.; but we dont know how old he was when he sired Kohath, we know that Levi died in 1612B.C. at the age of 137, we also know that Kohath died when he was 133 years old; further, we know that Moses was born in the year 1571B.C., Levi only missed Moses birth by 41 years, so its very well possible that Kohath was alive during Moses birth; and, most likely for sure the birth(s) of Moses older sister and brother: Miriam and Aaron. Lets turn to Numbers 3:28(Click here)and read of the responsibility of Kohaths descendants concerning their Ministerial\Priestly Duties: Numbers 3:28 In the numberH4557 of allH3605 the males,H2145 from a monthH2320 oldH4480 H1121 and upward,H4605 were eightH8083 thousandH505 and sixH8337 hundred,H3967 keepingH8104 the chargeH4931 of the sanctuary.H6944   —>   So, we see that the Kohathites charge was the Sanctuary, lets skip down to verse v3:31 and read what else was their charge: [3:31] And their chargeH4931 shall be the ark,H727 and the table,H7979 and the candlestick,H4501 and the altars,H4196 and the vesselsH3627 of the sanctuaryH6944 wherewithH834 they minister,H8334 and the hanging,H4539 and allH3605 the serviceH5656 thereof.   —>   Their duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the sanctuary and the instruments thereof; but, they also have the responsibility for Fathers Ark. Whenever the encampment moves, these are all the things they are responsible for taking down, carrying and then setting up when they stop, plus carrying Fathers Ark. [3:32] And EleazarH499 the sonH1121 of AaronH175 the priestH3548 shall be chiefH5387 over the chiefH85873 of the Levites,H3881 and have the oversightH6486 of them that keepH8104 the chargeH4931 of the sanctuary.H6944   —>   This is obviously after Eleazars fatherKohaths grandsonAaron had died and returned Home to Father. Eleazars duties and responsibilities include not only being a priest but, also he is to ensure that the sanctuary is properly taken care of. We know that Levis encampment as they came out of Egypt and wandered in the wilderness was in the midst of the campsee Dr. Bullingers Companion Bible, page 6 of 60(Click here)surrounded by all the other Tribes, Kohaths particular encampment was beside the Tabernacle, southward. For the etymology of the name Kohath, we read the following in Abarim Publications: Some commentators (New Open Bible Stusy Edition (NOBSE) Study Bible Name List, and the Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names) relate this name to a root that may or may not be used in the Bible (yes, namely in Genesis 49:10, says Alfred Jones; no say most others) but which occurs in cognate languages: the verb קהת (qahath), meaning to collect or assemble. Others rumor about another unused root that means allegiance, or relations with the verb קהה (qaha), be blunt or dull, as used in Jeremiah 31:29 or Ecclesiastes 10:10. Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names points towards the Shiloh prophecy of Genesis 49:10, one of two places in the Bible where the word קהת occurs not in the meaning of the name Kohath (the other being Proverbs 30:17). Jones generously translates this word here with gathering (and to him shall the gathering of the people be), but others are not so sure. The meaning of this word is somewhat disputed, reveals Harris Archer Waltke (HAW) Theological Wordbook of the Old Testament. Most popular translations derive it from the noun יקהה (yiqha), meaning obedience, from the assumed root יקה (yqh): The Septuagint, however, and with it some modern translations, connect this word to קוה (qawa), to wait for, hope, expect, and translate this word with expectation: The contexts of both occurrences of the illusive word קהת and thus the name Kohath, seem to favor the meaning of Obedience, which would also makes the most sense as meaning of the name of this famous Levite. For a meaning of the name Kohath, NOBSE Study Bible Name List appears to join Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names, or goes with קוה (qawa II) and reads Assembly. Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names reads Congregation. Brown Driver Briggs (BDB) Theological Dictionary does not interpret our name and lists it alphabetically, and not under some specific root.. Now from the Strongs Concordance, where we find that the name Kohath is Hebrew word number: H6955, - קְהָת, - qehâth, - pronounced: keh-hawthי, and means: From an unused root meaning to ally oneself; allied; Kehath, an Israelite: - Kohath. Total KJV occurrences: 32.. Now from the Smiths Bible Dictionary, where we read: Second of the three sons of Levi, from whom the three principal divisions of the Levites derived their origin and their name Genesis 46:11; Exodus 6:16. In the journeyings of the tabernacle of the sons of Kohath (Kohathites) had charge of the most holy portions of the vessels Numbers 4:1. ... Of the personal history of Kohath we know nothing, except that he came down to Egypt with Levi and Jacob, Genesis 46:11 that his sister was Jochebed, Exodus 6:20 and that he lived to the age of 133 years Exodus 6:18..
Merari
Merari=Merari was the youngest son of Levi, he was brother to 2 other sons, Gershon and Kohath, and 1 sister, Jochebed. There are 38 verses with 39 matches in Fathers Word for the name Merari and its associated Strongs Hebrew word number: H4847, all of them are either of him in the genealogical listings, or of his descendantsthe Merarites H4847again, either in the genealogical listings, of them receiving their inheritance of land, or of them receiving their service of the Tabernacle. Of the man Merari himself, we know nothing about, except to say that he was part of the 70 Israelites who went down into Egypt to escape the famine which had encompassed all the land. We dont know when he died and returned Home to Father, or what age he was when he did so. Lets turn to Numbers 3(Click here)and read of the responsibility of Meraris descendants concerning their ministerial\priestly duties: Numbers 3:36 And under the custodyH6486 and chargeH4931 of the sonsH1121 of MerariH4847 shall be the boardsH7175 of the tabernacle,H4908 and the barsH1280 thereof, and the pillarsH5982 thereof, and the socketsH134 thereof, and allH3605 the vesselsH3627 thereof, and allH3605 that servethH5656 thereto, [3:37] And the pillarsH5982 of the courtH2691 round about,H5439 and their sockets,H134 and their pins,H3489 and their cords.H4340   —>   The duties and responsibilities of the Merarites are the safeguarding, setting up and taking down, and carrying of the boards for the tabernacle, the bars of the tent and doors etc., in other words, all the wood items and fasteners, plus all the tie back fasteners for holding the cloth doors open concerning the tent and the court thereof belong to the Merarites. Again, we can see the number of and(s) within these two versesjust like in Genesis 1(Click here)and can know that they are a polysyndeton, meaning there is much more than just what is being said in these verses. We know that Meraris father Levis encampment as they came out of Egypt and wandered in the wilderness was in the midst of the camp, surrounded by all the other Tribes, Meraris particular encampment was beside the Tabernacle, northward. For the etymology of the name Merari, we read the following in Abarim Publications: The name Merari, like other Levites names, is probably of Egyptian origin and may have originally meant Beloved. In Hebrew, however, it looks like it has to do with the verb מרר (marar) meaning be bitter, strengthen, strong: The letter yod on which our name Merari ends may be due to a possessive form, and the name Merari may mean My Bitterness or My Strength. For a meaning of the name Merari, New Open Bible Study Edition (NOBSE) Study Bible Name List reads Bitter. Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names reads Bitterness.. Now from the Strongs Concordance, where we find that the name Merari is Hebrew word number: H4847, - מְרָרִי, - merârı̂y, - pronounced: mer-aw-reeי; and means: From H4843; bitter; Merari, an Israelite: - Merari. See also H4848. Total KJV occurrences: 39.. Now from the Smiths Bible Dictionary, where we read: Bitter, unhappy. Third son of Levi and head of the third great division of the Levites, the Merarites Genesis 46:8,11. At the time of the exodus and the numbering in the wilderness, the Merarites consisted of two families, the Mahlites and the Mushites, Mahli and Mushi being either the two sons of the son and grandson of Merari I Chronicles 6:19,47. Their chief at that time was Zuriel. Their charge was the cords of the tabernacle and the court, and all the tools connected with setting them up. In the division of the land by Joshua, the merarites had twelve cities assigned to them, out of Reuben, Gad and Zebulun Joshua 21:7; 34-40; I Chronicles 6:63; 77-81. In the days of Hezekiah the Merarites were still flourishing II Chronicles 29:12,15..

I Chronicles 6:2 And the sons of Kohath; Amram (high people; or, an exalted people) (am-rawm), Izhar, and Hebron, and Uzziel.   —>   Though Gershon is the eldest, Kohath is listed here first because, Aaron, Moses, and the Priest Line will all come through Kohaths seed.

Ill only be covering Amram from this verse because, it is through Amram that the seed-line and the Priestly-line will continue.

Amram=Amram was the eldest son of Kohath, grandson of Levi, and brother to Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel. There are 12 verses with 14 matches in Fathers Word for the name Amram and its associated Strongs Hebrew word number: H6019, all of them are either of him in the genealogical listings, or of his descendantsthe Amramites H6020again, either in the genealogical listings, of them receiving their inheritance of land, or of them receiving their service of the Tabernacle. Of the man Amram himself, we know nothing about as there is nothing written of him in Fathers Word, except to say that he fathered Aaron, Miriam and Moses, and then he died at the ripe old age of 137. The etymology of the name Amram, as indicated by some scholars, clearly resembles the root group עמר (aram): The additional letter mem could be a remnant of a plural form, or even some other word. Still, other scholars insist that the name Amram doesnt come from עמר, but consists of two elements: If the name Amram consists of two elements, the first element comes from the assumed root עמם: The second part of the name Amram comes from the root-verb רום (rum), meaning high or lofty: Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names reads People Of Exaltation. New Open Bible Study Edition (NOBSE) Study Bible Name List reads A People Exalted. Brown Driver Briggs (BDB) Theological Dictionary lists the above mentioned possibility, but also insists on the existence of the root עמר III, which in cognate languages means to live, to live long or even to worship. BDB doesnt translate the name, or explains where the letter mem may have come from, but it may be a remnant of a plural. That way the name Amram may also mean Long Lives or Worshippings. Now from the Strongs Concordance, where we find that it is Hebrew word number: H6019, - עַמְרָם, - ‛amrâm, pronounced - am-rawm, and means: Probably from H5971 and H7311; high people; Amram, the name of two Israelites: - Amram. Total KJV occurrences: 14.. Now from the Smiths Bible Dictionary, where we read: A Levite of the family of the Kohathites, and father of Moses Exodus 6:18,20..

I Chronicles 6:3 And the children of Amram; Aaron (a teacher; or, lofty) (a-har-one), and Moses (Drawing out [of the water], that is, rescued; or, drawn, i.e. from the water) (mo-sheh), and Miriam (rebelliously; or, rebellion) (meer-yawm). The sons also of Aaron; Nadab (liberal; and, liberal) (naw-dawb), and Abihu (Father (that is worshipper) of Him (that is YAH); and, He (YAH) is my Father) (ab-ee-hoo), Eleazar (YAH (is) helper; and, help of YAH) (el-aw-zawr), and Ithamar (coast of the palm tree; and, land of palms) (eeth-aw-mawr).   —>
Aaron=Aaron was the oldest son of Amram and his wife Jochebed, he was brother to Miriam and Moses, and both grandson and great-grandson of Levi through Levis second oldest son Kohath, and Levis daughterKohathssister Jochebed. There are 331 verses with 350 matches for the name Aaron and its associated Strongs Hebrew word number: 175 in Fathers Word. We are introduced to Aaron in Fathers Word, after being introduced to his younger brother Moses, when Father instructs Moses to return to Egypt to tell pharaoh to let His People go and Moses tells Father that he is of slow speech and tongue, and Father becomes angry with Moses and tells him that his brother the Levite will meet him as he is returning, and will be glad in his heart to see him, and hell do the speaking for Moses, when Mosses cannot find the words. Aaron does indeed meet Moses as he returns to Egypt and he does assist him every step of the way while Moses tries to convince pharaoh to let the Israelites leave their bondage to the Egyptians. After pronouncing 10 plagues upon Egypt, the last being the first born of every human and animal who was not covered by the blood of the slain lamb, pharaoh had finally had enough, and he told Moses to take the Israelites to flee Egypt. We read in Exodus 6 that before they fled Egypt, Aaron had already taken to wife Elisheba who bare him his 4 sons: Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. We further read in Exodus 6 that Aarons third oldest son Eleazar was also old enough and had already taken a wife before they fled Egypt. We discover several things in Exodus 7, among them were that, Moses was 80 and Arron 83 when they were convincing pharaoh to let them leave Egypt and that Father deemed, or elevated Aaron to Prophet status. Aaron was instrumental in the defeat of the Amalekites in that, as the war wore on, Moses arms grew heavy from holding them upwhich, so long as he held them up, Israel was having the victoryand every time he lowered them, Aaron and Hur braced his arms until the going down of the sun and our forefathers had the victory. We find in Exodus 24 Father calling Moses up onto Mount Sinai to give him the orders of the Priesthood and the Ten Commandments, while there Father tells Moses in Exodus 28 that Moses was to take Aaron and his sons from amongst all Israel, for they were to minister to Father as His Priests. Then sadly, we read in Exodus 32 that while Moses was still up receiving the Ten Commandments, certain men came to Aaron and convinced him that Moses wasnt coming back down off the Mount; therefor, Aaron should fashion a new god for them to follow after, one made from gold, a golden calf such as they worshiped while in Egypt. I say sadly because, we read that Aaron complied without even putting up any resistence to their demands, or fight for his brother Moses. We read in Leviticus 8 of the consecration of Aaron and his sons as Fathers Priests. We find while researching the etymology of the name Aaron that, the name is not a regular Hebrew word and thats possibly because it originated elsewhere (probably Egypt). But, since most names in the Bible mean something and foreign names often were transliterated into Hebrew in such a way that they began to mean something in Hebrew, its interesting to see what the name Aaron may have meant to a Hebrew audience. Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names derives Aaron from the Hebrew word הר (har) meaning mountain, hill (and a mountain is sometimes used as metaphor for a large group of people). From this perspective, the name Aaron is related to the Hebrew names Ararat and Haran. Another way of looking at the name Aaron (as does New Open Bible Study Edition (NOBSE) Study Bible Name List) is to follow the Hebrew root אור(or) meaning to be or become light: There may even be relations between the name Aaron and the word ארון (aron), meaning chest or Ark (see the name Aran). This word is used for an offer chest (II Kings 12:10), a sarcophagus (Genesis 50:26) but mostly to indicate the Ark of the Covenant (Exodus 25:10). And finally we note the curious similarity between the name אהרן (Aaron; spelled with the letter ה) and the adjective אחרון (aharon; spelled with the letter ח), meaning hindermost, latter or last. See any of the אחר-names (like Aharah) for more details on this word. Now from the Strongs Concordance, where we find that it is Hebrew word number: H175, - אַהֲרוֹן, - 'ahărôn, pronounced - a-har-one, and means: Of uncertain derivation; Aharon, the brother of Moses: - Aaron. Total KJV occurrences: 347. Now from the Smiths Bible Dictionary, where we read: The son of Amram and Jochebed, and the older brother of Moses and Miriam Numbers 26:59; 33:39. He was a Levite, and is first mentioned in Exodus 4:14. He was appointed by YHVH to be the interpreter Exodus 4:16, of his brother Moses, who was slow of speech; and accordingly he was not only the organ of communication with the Israelites and with Pharaoh Exodus 4:30;7:20, but also the actual instrument of working most of the miracles of the Exodus Exodus 7:19, etc.. On the way to Mount Sinai, during the battle with Amalek, Aaron with Hur stayed up the weary hands of Moses when they were lifted up for the victory of Israel Exodus 17:9. He is mentioned as dependent upon his brother and deriving all his authority from him. Left, on Moses departure into Sinai, to guide the people, Aaron is tried for a moment on his own responsibility, and he fails from a weak inability to withstand the demand of the people for visible gods to go before them, by making an image of YHVH, in the well-known form of Egyptian idolatry (Apis or Mnevis). He repented of his sin, and Moses gained forgiveness for him Deuteronomy 9:20. Aaron was not consecrated by Moses to the new office of the high priesthood Exodus 29:9. From this time the history of Aaron is almost entirely that of the priesthood, and its chief feature is the great rebellion of Korah and the Levites. Leaning, as he seems to have done, wholly on Moses, it is not strange that he should have shared his sin at Meribah and its punishment. See Moses Numbers 20:10-12. Aarons death seems to have followed very speedily. It took place on Mount Hor, after the transference of his robes and office to Eleazar Numbers 20:28. This mount is still called the Mountain of Aaron. See Hor. The wife of Aaron was Elisheba Exodus 6:23, and the two sons who survived him Eleazar and Ithamar. The high priesthood descended to the former, and to his descendants until the time of Eli, who, although of the house of Ithamar, received the high priesthood and transmitted it to his children; with them it continued till the accession of Solomon, who took it from Abiathar and restored it to Zadok (of the house of Eleazar). See Abiathar..

Moses=Moses was the younger of two sons born to Amram and Jochebed, his older brother was Aaron, and he also had an older sister: Miriam. Moses was a type for our LORD and Saviour Jesus Christ as, Father used him to be a Deliverer and Saviour to our forefathers to bring them out of their bondage to the Egyptians, and into the Promised Land which He had Promised Abraham He would do over 400 years previous. There are 784 verses with 848 matches for the name Moses and its associated Strongs Hebrew word number: 4872 in Fathers Word. We are introduced to him at the time of his birth, he was born while our forefathers were in captivity and bondage to the Egyptians. The pharaoh, or king of Egypt, at the time of his birth had commanded that all the male children of the Israelites be killed as, our forefathers were fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and waxed exceeding mighty; and the land was filled with them.; so, in the hopes of saving her sons life, when he was 3 months old his mother fashioned an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and pitch, and had her daughter Miriam take her brother and set him in his ark in the reeds of the bank of the River Nile, where she watched what would be done to him. Shortly after setting him and his ark in the river, pharaohs daughter came down to the river to bathe herself and when she saw the little ark floating in the water, she had one of her maidens fetch it to bring it to her to see what it was. When she opened it, she saw that infant child lying inside and she had compassion on the babe. When Miriam saw that pharaohs daughter had compassion, Miriam exposed herself from where she was hiding and asked the young woman if she should go and get an Israelite woman to assist in the nursing of the child? To her delight, the woman said, Go, and Miriam ran to her mother and brought her to nurse her own son. Pharaohs daughter said to Jochebed, Take this child away, and nurse it for me, and I will give thee thy wages., and Jochebed took her son and nursed him until he grew and then returned him to Pharaohs daughter and he became her son, and she named him Moses, hence his name being of foreign derivation, the Latin form of the original Moshe. Translated rather than transliterated, the name means: drawn, i.e. from the water; in the Coptic it means saved from the water. Moses was born in 1571B.C. and lived a total of 120 years: 40 years in Egypt before being banished by pharaoh after it was discovered that he was not an Egyptian. Steven, in the Book of THE ACTS OF THE APOSTLES, gives us this account: Acts 7:24 And seeing one of them suffer wrong, he defended him, and avenged him that was oppressed, and smote the Egyptian: [7:25] For he supposed his brethren would have understood how that God by his hand would deliver them: but they understood not. [7:26] And the next day he shewed himself unto them as they strove, and would have set them at one again, saying, Sirs, ye are brethren; why do ye wrong one to another? [7:27] But he that did his neighbour wrong thrust him away, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge over us? [7:28] Wilt thou kill me, as thou diddest the Egyptian yesterday? [7:29] Then fled Moses at this saying, and was a stranger in the land of Madian, where he begat two sons.   —>   Moses married Ziporah while he was in exile and she bare him Gershom and Eliezer. Paul says this of the account of Moses in THE EPISTLE TO THE HEBREWS: Hebrews 11:24 By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaohs daughter; [11:25] Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; [11:26] Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward. [11:27] By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing Him Who is invisible.; he lived 40 years in exile, again, lets read Stevens account: Acts 7:30 And when forty years were expired, there appeared to him in the wilderness of mount Sina an Angel of the Lord in a flame of fire in a bush. [7:31] When Moses saw it, he wondered at the sight: and as he drew near to behold it, the voice of the LORD came unto him, [Act 7:32] Saying, I am the God of thy fathers, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Then Moses trembled, and durst not behold. [7:33] Then said the LORD to him, Put off thy shoes from thy feet: for the place where thou standest is holy ground.  [7:34] I have seen, I have seen the affliction of My people which is in Egypt, and I have heard their groaning, and am come down to deliver them. And now come, I will send thee into Egypt. [7:35] This Moses whom they refused, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge? the same did God send to be a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the Angel which appeared to him in the bush. [7:36] He brought them out, after that he had shewed wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, and in the Red sea, and in the wilderness forty years.; and then, returning to Egypt to lead our forefathers out of Egypt: Acts 7:37 This is that Moses, which said unto the children of Israel, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; Him shall ye hear. [7:38] This is he, that was in the church in the wilderness with the Angel Which spake to him in the mount Sina, and with our fathers: who received the lively oracles to give unto us: [7:39] To whom our fathers would not obey, but thrust him from them, and in their hearts turned back again into Egypt,   —>   Our forefathers did indeed try several times to turn back to Egypt and Father became so angry at them that He was going to destroy them and start anew with Moses being the father of the Nation; however, Moses would have none of it, he was a superb intercessor and convinced Father to give our forefathers chance after chance. Where to begin and what to say concerning Fathers friend, Prophet, Law Giver, and writer of the first five Books of His Word. Surely, it would take a volume in and of itself to fully encapsulate and expound upon all the virtues of Moses the historian, orator, leader, statesman, legislator and patriot. Charlton Heston superbly captured the essence of the man in Cecil B. Demilles 1956 Block Buster The 10 COMMANDMENTS; but, though Charlton did capture Moses essence, Im sure he fell well short of the true character of the man. Moses lived a total of 120 years which were divided into 3 40 year segments and can be summed this way: the first 40 years was his birth until his flight from Egypt to Midian; the second 40 years were of his time in Midian finding himself and then finding Father and learning of Fathers Plan was for him; the third 40 years were of his return to Egypt to lead Fathers Chosen People out of Egypt; but, not before having to convince pharaoh to let My People go. Moses led our forefathers through the desert and then the wilderness a total of 40 years to the edge of The Promised Land which he himself got to look at and observe from the top of Mount Nebo; but, like everybody else who fled Egypt 20 years old and above, he didnt get to enter into the Promised Land, for them it was because of their unbelief, for Moses it was because he struck the Rock when he was supposed to Speak to the Rock. The etymology of the name Moses along with the original meaning of the name have been long disputed. Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names derives it from the Egyptian word for water, mo, and the verb to save out of water, uses. Brown Driver Briggs (BDB) Theological Dictionary relates it to the Egyptian word mes, mesu, meaning child, son. Then, of course, there is the Hebrew verb משה (masha), which is identical to the name save for the Masoretic additions: Since it is highly unlikely that the Egyptian princess was speaking Hebrew when she said it, Moses was probably known by the Egyptian word for Draw Out. Then, when he began to play a role in a Hebrew text, his name must have been subsequently translated into Hebrew. Harris Archer Waltke (HAW) Theological Wordbook of the Old Testament devotes an article to the name Moses and notes that this name is a Qal active participle of the verb masha, and concludes that the name Moses doesnt mean He Who Was Drawn Out, but rather He Who Draws Out. The name is explained not because Moses is derived from masha but because it resembles it in sound (says HAW Theological Wordbook of the Old Testament ). HAW further states that the consensus today is that Moses has to do with the Egyptian word for child (as BDB Theological Dictionary reports). This in turn suggests that the emphasis in Exodus 2:10 should not be placed on the verb drewbecause I drew him out of the water — but on the princess who claims right to adopt and name Moses because she drew him out: And she named him because she drew him out of the water. Also note that the name Moses not only strongly resembles the verb that means to draw out, it obviously also resonates with the action of lending and borrowing, that is: receiving something that may be used at ones discretion but of which no ownership can be claimed and which some day will have to be returned to the rightful owner. Now from the Strongs Concordance, where we find that it is Hebrew word number: H4872, - מֹשֶׁה, - môsheh, pronounced - mo-sheh, and means: From H4871; drawing out (of the water), that is, rescued; Mosheh, the Israelitish lawgiver: - Moses. Total KJV occurrences: 766.. Now from the Smiths Bible Dictionary, The description of Moses in the Smiths Bible Dictionary is extensive and is entirely too long to post here; so, I,’ll instead just post the link to it: Moses.

Miriam=Miriam was the eldest child and daughter of Godly parents Amram and Jochebed, and she was the sister of two of Israelsand this author believes, two of historysgreatest figures, namely: Aaron and Moses. We are first introduced to Miriam without even knowing the young girls name, all we know when we first meet her, is that she was roughly 10 years old, and her mother took the wise precaution of leaving her nearby to stand guard over and watch to see what would happen to her unnamed young brother after her mother had made that ark of bulrushes and placed it with him inside it in the Nile River. We quickly discover that she was an intelligent girl and ready of wit, for when pharaohs daughter spied the little basket with its precious cargo, Miriam quickly appeared out of the shadows, and appearing innocent and curious at the screaming baby and the puzzled princess, she asks if she would like her to try and find a Hebrew nurse, all the while, keeping her silence and not revealing her relation to the baby and the nurse she secured. There are only 13 verses with 15 matches for the name Miriam and its associated Strongs Hebrew word number: H4813 in Fathers Word. Other than what I pointed out above, here is what we know of her: in the very first mention of her by name in Exodus 15:20, we learn that she is a Prophetessthe first woman mentioned as such in Fathers Word and immediately after her brother led our forefathers in song because of the glorious victory which Father had drown the Egyptians who were chasing after them in the Red Seaand she picked up a tambourine to join in the giving Father Praise for His victory over Israels enemy. Sadly for her, our next encounter with her is in Numbers 12:1, when she and her brother Aaron are angry with their younger brother Moses for his marrying who they thought was a foreign woman; but, in reality, she was of Adamic descent as, she was a Midianite. In a non-humorous way, its funny that Amram and Jochebed named her rebellion, especially considering that was what she was doing when she was accusing Moses. She was named first in the Chapter and Verse because, she was not only the elder; but, she was also the first in the rebellion. What happened because of it? She became leprous, white as snow: and Aaron looked upon Miriam, and, behold, she was leprous., thus showing us that it was Father Who was angry for her rebellion against Him. Father told Moses that he was to put her out of the camp for seven days because she was unclean because of her leprosy, and then it wasnt long after that, that she returned Home to Father. Neither husband or children are mentioned in Fathers Word as being associated with her; but, Biblical historian Josephus, in his Antiquities of the Jews, informs us that Miriam became the wife of another well-known leader in Israel namely, Hur, one of the judges of the people when Moses was on Mount Sinai (Exodus 24:14). This would make Miriam to be the grandmother of Bezaleel, the famous artist in the construction of the Tabernacle (Exodus 31:2).; but, as I said, that is not in Fathers Word. The etymology of the name Miriam is unclear, although — as many Levite names are for some reason Egyptian — it may have to do with the Egyptian word for Beloved (see the name Merari). On a Hebrew stage, most scholars derive the name Miriam from the verb מרה (mara), meaning to be rebellious or disobedient: Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names reads Their Rebellion. New Open Bible Study Edition (NOBSE) Study Bible Name List reads Obstinacy, Stubbornness. To a creative audience, the first part of the name Miriam could also be regarded as related to the verb מרר (marar), meaning to be bitter or to be strong: And the second part of the name Miriam holds some resemblance to the word ים (yam), meaning sea: Now from the Strongs Concordance, we find that it is Hebrew word number: H4813, - מִרְיָם, - miryâm, pronounced - meer-yawm, and means: From H4805; rebelliously; Mirjam, the name of two Israelitesses: - Miriam. Total KJV occurrences: 15.. Now from the Smiths Bible Dictionary, where we read: The sister of Moses, was the eldest of that sacred family; and she first appears, probably as a young girl, watching her infant brothers cradle in the Nile Exodus 2:4, and suggesting her mother as a nurse Exodus 2:7. After the crossing of the Red Sea Miriam the prophetess is her acknowledged title Exodus 15:20. The prophetic power showed itself in her under the same form as that which it assumed in the days of Samuel and David, -- poetry, accompanied with music and processions Exodus 15:1-19. She took the lead, with Aaron, in the complaint against Moses for his marriage with a Cushite, Numbers 12:1,2 and for this was attacked with leprosy. This stroke and its removal, which took place at Hazeroth, form the last public event of Miriams life Numbers 12:1-15. She died toward the close of the wanderings at Kadesh, and was buried there Numbers 20:1, about 1452B.C...

Nadab=Nadab was Aaron and Elishebas oldest child and son, he was brother to Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. Dr. Smith records in his Smiths Bible Dictionary, that he believes that Nadab was born about the same year as the exodus, 1490B.C.; however, Im going to have to disagree with him as, according to Exodus 6:25 which was prior to the exodusmaybe the same year, but we dont know for sureAnd Eleazar Aarons son took him one of the daughters of Putiel to wife; and she bare him Phinehas: these are the heads of the fathers of the Levites according to their families.   —>   If Aarons third son Eleazar had already taken him a wife and she already bare him a son whose name was Phinehas; then, Nadabas did Eleazarhad to have been born many years prior to the exodus. There are 20 verses and matches for the name Nadab and its associated Strongs Hebrew word number: H5070, in Fathers Word, 12 of them are of Aarons son, and the other 8 verses and matches are of other men named Nadab. Nadab and his brother Abihu were fortunate enough to receive the Blessing by Father of being invited along with Moses, their father Aaron, and 70 of the elders of Israel to approach, behold and worship Father on Mount Sinai as can be read in Exodus 24:1-11. We next read in both Exodus 28:1-29:46 and Leviticus 8:1-9:24 of the Consecration and Ministration of Nadab, and his father and brothers in their roles as Fathers Priests. Then comes the grievous error and sin of Nadab and his brother Abihu. A lot of people misunderstand, misinterpret and mistranslate the events and falsely believe that Father struck Nadab and Abihu dead because they had consumed alcohol. Yes, they correctly read in Fathers Word that the punishment came because, they offered strange fire; but, if you listen closely to them, it is clear that they incorrectly believe it was solely because they were drinking alcohol. The reality is that Father didnt call them Home to Him because they were drinking; but, because they had consumed too much on the night before they were to Minister unto Him, and they allowed The Perpetual Burning Fire to burn out. THEN, to make matters worse, when they went to re-ignite it, they each took their censer, loaded them up with hot coals from an unauthorized source, put incense on top of the hot coals and used that to try and light Fathers Fire, and it was for that reason He caused a consuming fire to devour Nadab and his brother Abihu. The etymology of the name Nadab comes from the verb נדב (nadab), meaning to incite or impel: There are quite a few ways to go about the name Nadab. For a meaning of the name Nadab, New Open Bible Study Edition (NOBSE) Study Bible Name List reads Willing, the NOBSE, Strongs Concordance, and the Smiths Bible Dictionary all list: Liberal. Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names proposes Volunteer, and adds: i.e. willing. Brown Driver Briggs (BDB) Theological Dictionary has Generous, Noble. Now from the Strongs Concordance, where we find that it is Hebrew word number: H5070, - נָדָב, - nâdâb, pronounced - naw-dawb, and means: From H5068; liberal; Nadab, the name of four Israelites: - Nadab. Total KJV occurrences: 20.. Now from the Smiths Bible Dictionary, where we read: The eldest son of Aaron and Elisheba Exodus 8:13; Numbers 3:2. (B.C. 1490.) He, his father and brother, and seventy old men of Israel were led out from the midst of the assembled people, Exodus 24:1 and were commended to stay and worship God afar off, below the lofty summit of Sinai, where Moses alone was to come near to the Lord. Subsequently, Leviticus 10:1 Nadab and his brother were struck dead before the sanctuary by fire from the Lord. Their offence was kindling the incense in their censers with strange fire, i.e. not taken from that which burned perpetually, Leviticus 6:13 on the altar..

Abihu=Abihu was the second oldest child and son of Aaron and Elisheba; younger than Nadab; but, older than Eleazar and Ithamar. Abihu was only slightly younger than his older brother Nadab; but, in any case, he like Nadab, was born prior to the exodus from Egypt. We know this because of Exodus 6:25, which reads: Exodus 6:25 And Eleazar Aarons son took him one of the daughters of Putiel to wife; and she bare him Phinehas: these are the heads of the fathers of the Levites according to their families.   —>   So, if Abihus younger brother was already grown and had a wife prior to the exodus, then obviously, so was Abihu born quite a few years prior to our forefathers being released from their bondage. There are 12 verses and matches for the name Abihu and its associated Strongs Hebrew word number: H30, in Fathers Word, 12 of them are of Aarons son Abihu. The last mention of Abihus name in Fathers Word is found when David was establishing the Courses for the Priests which can be read in I Chronicles 24:1-2, where we read that he and his older brother both died before they had any children. The etymology of the name Abihu consists of two elements. The first element is the familiar Hebrew word אב (ab) , meaning father: The post-fixed letter yod makes it possessive: my father, or father of, depending on the context. The second element of the name Abihu is הוא (hu), third person singular pronoun: he, she or it: For a meaning of the name Abihu, both New Open Bible Study Edition (NOBSE) Study Bible Name List and Brown Driver Briggs (BDB) Theological Dictionary read He Is Father. Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names has (Whose) Father (Is) He. Now from the Strongs Concordance, where we find that it is Hebrew word number: H30, - אֲבִיהוּא, - 'ăbı̂yhû', pronounced - ab-ee-hoo, and means: From H1 and H1931; father (that is worshipper) of Him (that is God); Abihu, a son of Aaron: - Abihu. Total KJV occurrences: 12.. Now from the Smiths Bible Dictionary, where we read: The second son, Numbers 3:2 of Aaron by Elisheba Exodus 6:23. Being, together with his elder brother Nadab, guilty of offering strange fire to the Lord, he was consumed by fire from heaven Leviticus 10:1,2..

Eleazar=The third oldest child and son of Aaron and Elisheba, born several years prior to our forefathers exodus out of Egypt as is documented in Exodus 6:25, which reads: Exodus 6:25 And Eleazar Aarons son took him one of the daughters of Putiel to wife; and she bare him Phinehas: these are the heads of the fathers of the Levites according to their families.   —>    Exodus 6:25 obviously occurred prior to Exodus 12; so, Eleazar was born quite a few years prior to our forefathers being released from their bondage. There are 70 verses with 72 matches for the name Eleazar and its associated Hebrew word number H499 in Fathers Word. We read in both Exodus 28:1-29:46 and Leviticus 8:1-9:24 of the Consecration and Ministration of Eleazar, along with his father and brothers in their roles as Fathers Priests. After the death of his two older brothers Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar was made Chief of the Chief of the LevitesElizaphan the son of Uzzielas can be read in Numbers 3:32: Numbers 3:32 And Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest shall be chief over the chief of the Levites, and have the oversight of them that keep the charge of the sanctuary.   —>   This was just before his father Aaron returned Home to Father; so, it would only be a matter of time until he became the High Priest. As an aside, Dr. Bullinger notes in his Companion Bible Appendices, AP 51 that Arron died in the year 1452B.C., and further notes in his companion notes at Joshua 24:33 that Eleazars son Phinehas has been acting as the deputy High Priest as far back as 1444; ten or twelve years before his father died.. So, in reality, Eleazar was High Priest for only about 8 years. Eleazar was able to enter into the Promised Land; therefore, he had to be younger than 20 years old when the exodus occurred. Other than administering the ministrations of the Priests Office, we dont read too much concerning the man Eleazar, so we dont know too much about him except to say this, he was probablythough only the secondthe only righteous Priest, and 1,400 years in the future, Jesusin John 11will use the death of Lazaruswhose name in Greek means the exact same thing as Eleazars in Hebrew: whom YAH helps or help of YAHto show how the priesthood had died after Eleazar, and how He would raise it back to life. The etymology of the name Eleazar is a compound of two elements. The first part is the word אל (El), the common abbreviation of Elohim, the genus God. The second part of the name Eleazar comes from the verb עזר (azar) meaning help, support: The meaning of the name Eleazar is God (Has Helped New Open Bible Study Edition (NOBSE) Study Bible Name List) or Whom God Helps (Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names). Now from the Strongs Concordance, where we find that it is Hebrew word number: H499, - אֶלְעָזָר, - 'el‛âzâr, pronounced - el-aw-zawr, and means: From H410 and H5826; God (is) helper; Elazar, the name of seven Israelites: - Eleazar. Total KJV occurrences: 72.. Now from the Smiths Bible Dictionary, where we read: Third son of Aaron. After the death of Nadab and Abihu without children, Leviticus 10:6 ; Numbers 3:4 Eleazar was appointed chief over the principal Levites Numbers 3:32. With his brother Ithamar he ministered as a priest during their fathers lifetime, and immediately before his death was invested on Mount Hor with the sacred garments, as the successor of Aaron in the office of high priest Numbers 20:28. One of his first duties was in conjunction with Moses to superintend the census of the people Numbers 26:3. After the conquest of Canaan by Joshua he took part in the distribution of the land Joshua 14:1. The time of his death is not mentioned in Scripture..

Im adding in this after thought; or, postword: After a considerable more amount of research, researching the Priests and the Priesthood, I came to realize that Elezazar was the High Priest when our forefathers entered into the Promised Land in the year 1452B.C., he was High Priest for 8 years when his son Phinehas took over for him. In all that time, we never read in Fathers Word of anything he did as High Priest, he is pretty much absent, and it is from here that the Priesthood becomes of none-effect. Unlike his father Aaron who we read quite a bit about in the Torah, Eleazar and his son Phinehas are bearly mentioned in the Book of Joshua and Book of Judges and then Phinehass descendants are likewise barely mentioned until the time of Saul and David in the Books of Samuel. You have to wonder why this was so, was it because Joshuaand then the Judges toobasically told them to stay in their place, was it because they felt they would be of none-effect, or what mitigating factor was it that the High Priest and the Priesthood became silent? Especially considering the zeal which Phinehas had when he drove that javelin into Zimri and Cozbi and then Father bestowed the Covenant of Peace and the everlasting Priesthood onto him and his seed afterward.

Ithamar=The youngest child and son of Aaron and Elisheba, born unto them during the captivity and subjection of Egypt, prior to our forefathers exodus from their bondage as is recorded in Exodus 6:23. There are 20 verses with 21 matches for the name Ithamar and the Strongs Hebrew word number: H385 associated with it in Fathers Word, the first we read of Ithamar is when after Father had given Moses the instructions on how to build His Tabernacle and all the instruments which were to be placed inside to perform the Worship Service for Father, when everything had been completed, it was Ithamar who accounted for everything and reported to Moses, saying everything was complete. We read in both Exodus 28:1-29:46 and Leviticus 8:1-9:24 of the Consecration and Ministration of Ithamar, along with his father and brothers in their roles as Fathers Priests. After the death of his two older brothers Nadab and Abihu, we read in Numbers 4 that, the offspring of both Gershon and Merari in their ministrations of disassembling, transporting and reassembling the cloth and hardware of Fathers Tabernacle were supervised by Ithamar. Ithamars descendants would also be instrumental during Davids day as he set the 24 Priestly Courses by 8 of his descendants as read in I Chronicles 24. The etymology of the name Ithamar could be construed as to consist of two elements. The first one would be the multifarious word אי (i): The second part of our name looks strikingly like the noun תמר (tamar), meaning palm tree: For a meaning of the name Ithamar, New Open Bible Study Edition (NOBSE) Study Bible Name List proposes Island Of Palms and Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names reads Land Of Palm. Brown Driver Briggs (BDB) Theological Dictionary, in its signature trepid form, keeps all options open and reads (Is)land Of Palms?. After the death of Nadab and Abihu Leviticus 10:1, Eleazar and Ithamar were appointed to succeed to their places in the priestly office Exodus 28:1,40,43; Numbers 3:3,4; I Chronicles 24:2. In the distribution of services belonging to the tabernacle, and its transport on the march of the Israelites, the Gershonites and the Merarites were placed under the superintendence of Ithamar Exodus 38:21, Numbers 4:21-33. The high priesthood passed into the family of Ithamar in the person of Eli, but for what reason we are not informed..

6:4-15 The Priests (to the
   captivity).

I Chronicles 6:4 Eleazar begat Phinehas (mouth of a serpent; or, mouth of brass) (pee-nekh-aws), Phinehas begat Abishua (father of plenty that is (prosperous); and, father of deliverance) (ab-ee-shoo-ah),   —>   Phinehas=Phinehas was a bold, brave, and courageous young man if ever there was one. He was the son of Eleazar, grandson of Aaron, and great great-grandson of the patriarch Levi. He was born while our forefathers were still under the subjection of Egypt; but, he was under the age of 20 years when they came out during the exodus. We know this because, Father declared in Numbers 32:11 that: Numbers 32:10 And the LORDS anger was kindled the same time, and he sware, saying, [32:11] Surely none of the men that came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob; because they have not wholly followed me: [32:12] Save Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite, and Joshua the son of Nun: for they have wholly followed the LORD. [32:13] And the LORDS anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation, that had done evil in the sight of the LORD, was consumed.   —>   So as we see, Phinehas was under 20 years old when they fled Egypt. He also must have been only between 19-21 when he performed the act for which he is most remembered, the revered act which guaranteed hed be the third High Priest of all Israel which can be read of in Numbers 25: Numbers 25:4 And the LORD said unto Moses, Take all the heads of the People, and hang them up before the LORD against the sun, that the fierce anger of the LORD may be turned away from Israel.   —>   Why was Fathers anger so hot? Because, had I started at the beginning of the Chapter we would have read that our forefathers had joined unto the Moabiteswho had occupied Baal-Peor before our forefathers overthrew them to inhabit the landand started serving and worshiping their false gods, which of course, Father Commanded they not do. So, now His anger is kindled and burning brightly against our forefathers. This is one position that you never want to find yourself where Father tells somebody that is in charge of you that, something must be done in order for His fierce to be turned away from you. These heads of the People are the chiefs or princes of the people. The number isnt stated here in this verse but, it must have been the 1,000 which had previously been hanged, and also included in the 24,000 of verse v25:9; but, which were excluded from I Corinthians 10:8 Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.. Hang them up=I.e., impaled or nailed to a stake, as in crucifixion. The vulgate renders it crucify, which means the same thing. So, what is Father going to have Moses do to them? [25:5] And Moses said unto the judges of Israel, Slay ye every one his men that were joined unto Baal-peor.   —>   Just as like happened while he was up on Mount Sinai receiving the 2 tablets of the Ten Commandments from Fatherand our forefathers sinned at the base of the Mount as we read in Exodus 32Moses commanded that certain People stand against, and slay those who sinned. Watch what happens next brethren: [25:6] And, behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought unto his brethren a Midianitish woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, who were weeping before the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. [25:7] And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from among the congregation, and took a javelin in his hand; 25:8] And he went after the man of Israel into the tent, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her belly. So the plague was stayed from the children of Israel. [25:9] And those that died in the plague were twenty and four thousand.   —>   Because, and only because of Phinehas actions was the plague stopped. Phinehas completely, totally, and wholly acted as a Priest should have acted in this instance, thus ensuring hed be the third High Priest when his father Aaron returned Home to Father. So, what else do we know of Phinehas? Well we know that there are 24 verses with 25 matches for the name Phinehas and the Strongs Hebrew word number: H6372 associated with in in Fathers Word. Though I dont necessarily like to use Wikipedia as a source, Wiki lists his birth year as 1514B.C.; sadly, I cannot verify that as, I cannot find anywhere else which lists his birth and\or death years, Wike also lists his death year as 1415B.C.. Ill only sort of concur with Wiki as, the dates do sort of align as, we know the exodus occurred in 1491B.C. and Phinehas carried out the judgment of Zimri and Cosbi as our forefathers were wandering the wilderness and had stopped in Shittim and had joined onto Baa-Peor and thus committed their licentious idolatry. We also know that Father rewarded him handsomely for his bold actions as can be read in Numbers 25:12-13: Numbers 25:12 Wherefore say, Behold, I give unto him My covenant of peace: [25:13] And he shall have it, and his seed after him, even the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was zealous for his God, and made an atonement for the children of Israel.    —>   He shall have it=Psalms 106:30-31 covers this: Psalms 106:30 Then stood up Phinehas, and executed judgment: and so the plague was stayed. [106:31]  And that was counted unto him for righteousness unto all generations for evermore., as does Malachi 2:4: Malachi 2:4 And ye shall know that I sent this commandment unto you, that My covenant might be with Levi, saith the LORD of hosts. [2:5] My covenant was with him of life and peace; and I gave them to him for the fear wherewith he feared Me, and was afraid before My name.   —>   We can compare this with I Chronicles 6:1-15, where we read the list of names of Levi, Kohath, Amram, Aaron, , Eleazar, and Phinehass descendants all the way to Ezra which we further find in Ezra 7:1-5. Bible Gatewayone of the sources I like to use: biblegateway.comnotes that Phinehas discharged his office most faithfully for nineteen years., though again, I cannot corroborate that in Fathers Word. Phinehas was also credited with 2 other feats: (1) Moses sent him as Priest and with the instruments of the Priest on Fathers Command to avenge Father of the Midianites. A thousand men from each Tribe went into this battle, and they avenged themselves and Father. They slew all the males and five of the kings of Midian; namely, Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba, and they also killed Balaam the son of Beor; and (2) Phinehas also led the gaggle of 10 princes of every Tribe against the Tribes of Gad, Reuben, and half the Tribe of Manasseh who, after assisting their brethren defeat the Canaanites so they could move into their land, as the 2 1/2 Tribes were returning to the east side of the Jordan River, they set up an altar to worship Father; however, when the other 9 1/2 Tribes heard about the altar, they assumed it was to serve and worship false gods, so Phinehas was sent with his delegation to investigate. He\they found the the Tribes of Gad, Reuben and half of Manasseh did indeed stet up an altar; but, it was set up to Honor, Serve, and Worship Father, not false gods. Lastly, Phinehas was also presentand was at that time the High Priestduring the conflict and war against the Tribe of Benjamin when the men of Gibeah has killed the Levites concubine as he and she were returning from her fathers. The verse which closes the Book of Joshua is ascribed to Phinehas, much as the description of the death of Moses at the end of the Book of Deuteronomy is to Joshua. Phinehas was given a parcel of which was part of the land known as Mount Ephraim and the tomb of Phinehas, is a place of great resort to both the Judeans and Samaritans, it is shown at Awertah, and is said to be four miles southeast of Nablus. The etymology and original meaning of the name Phinehas is not immediately clear. Brown Driver Briggs (BDB) Theological Dictionary suggests that it is a transliteration of the Egyptian name Pe-nehasi, meaning The Negro, or more specifically, The Bronze-Colored One, says Harris Archer Waltke (HAW) Theological Wordbook of the Old Testament (at once raising the question of why on earth anyone would mistake the tint of a Negroid skin with that of bronze). A Hebrew audience may have seen in this name a compound consisting of two elements, the first being the noun פה (peh), meaning mouth: The second element of the name Phinehas ends with the letter ס (samekh), but that letter sometimes alternates with the letter שׂ (sin). In the time that the Bible actually plays, the letter ש only existed without the dot and, judging from the sibboleth incident in Judges 12:6, was probably pronounced like a שׁ (shin), so its not inconceivable that the second element of the name Phinehas has to do with the root group נחשׁ (nahash): Hence, to a Hebrew audience the name Phinehas may mean Mouth of Brass (which is the meaning Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names proposes), or Oracle (which New Open Bible Study Edition [NOBSE] Study Bible Name List gives). However, more related to the first part of our name may be the verb פנה (pana), meaning to turn: And the second part of the name Phinehas could be construed to come from the verb חסה (hasa), meaning to seek refuge: This way the name Phinehas means Turn And Hide; or, slightly more daring, Trust Your Heart. Now from the Strongs Concordance, where we find that it is Hebrew word number: H6372, - פִּינְחָס, - pı̂ynechâs, pronounced - pee-nekh-aws, and means: Apparently from H6310 and a variation of H5175; mouth of a serpent; Pinechas, the name of three Israelites: - Phinehas. Total KJV occurrences: 25.. Now from the Smiths Bible Dictionary, where we read: Son of Eleazar and grandson of Aaron Exodus 6:25. He is memorable for having while quite a youth, by his zeal and energy at the critical moment of the licentious idolatry of Shittim, appeased the divine wrath, and put a stop to the plague which was destroying the nation Numbers 25:7. For this he was rewarded by the special approbation of Jehovah and by a promise that the priesthood should remain in his family forever Numbers 25:10-13. He was appointed to accompany as priest the expedition by which the Midianites were destroyed Numbers 31:6. Many years later he also headed the party which was despatched from Shiloh to remonstrate against the altar which the transjordanic tribes were reported to have built near Jordan Joshua 22:13-32. In the partition of the country he received an allotment of his own --a hill on Mount Ephraim which bore his name. After Eleazars death he became high priest --the third of the series. In this capacity he is introduced as giving the oracle to the nation during the whole struggle with the Benjamites on the matter of Gibeah Judges 20:28 The verse which closes the book of Joshua is ascribed to Phinehas, as the description of the death of Moses at the end of Deuteronomy is to Joshua. The tomb of Phinehas, a place of great resort to both Jews and Samaritans, is shown at Awertah, four miles southeast of Nablus..

Abishua=Abishua was Phinehas only son, he inherited the position of High Priest when his father returned Home to Father. As there are only 5 verses and 5 matches for the name Abishua and its associated Strongs Hebrew word number H50 in Fathers Word, we really have no idea concerning the man, the life he lived, how he conducted his Priestly duties, or what not. The only thing we really know of him was that he bear a son whom he and his unnamed wife named Bukki. The etymology of the name Abishua consists of two elements. The first part of the name comes from the common Hebrew word אב (ab), meaning father: The added letter י (yod) creates a possessive; the compound אבי (abi) may mean my father, or father of, depending on the context. The second part of the name Abishua comes from the root group ישע (yasha), meaning to save, and שוע (shawa), meaning to cry for help: For a meaning of the name Abishua, New Open Bible Study Edition (NOBSE) Study Bible Name List reads The Father Is Salvation. Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names proposes Father Of Riches or Father Of Welfare. Brown Driver Briggs (BDB) Theological Dictionary suggests My Father Is Rescue or My Father Is Opulence. Now from the Strongs Concordance, where we find that it is Hebrew word number: H50, - אֲבִישׁוּעַ, - 'ăbı̂yshûa‛, pronounced - ab-ee-shoo-ah, and means: From H1 and H7171; father of plenty (that is, prosperous); Abishua, the name of two Israelites: - Abishua. Total KJV occurrences: 5. Now from the Smiths Bible Dictionary, where we read: Son of Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, and father of Bukki, in the genealogy of the high priests I Chronicles 6:4,5,50,51; Ezra7:4,5..

I Chronicles 6:5 And Abishua begat Bukki (wasteful; or, wasting) (book-ee), and Bukki begat Uzzi (forceful; or, strong) (ooz-zee),   —>   Bukki=Like his father Abishua, we know very little about Bukki as, there are only 4 verses and 5 matches for the name Bukki and the Strongs Hebrew word number H1231 associated with it in Fathers Word, and 1 of those verses and matches is for another man named Bukki. As such, the only thing we can say that we know is that he is in the genealogy of the High Priest line, and that he had a son who he and his unnamed wife named Uzzi. I could not find an etymology of the name Bukki using any of my resources, nor by searching the internet for the name Bukki, nor even searching the Hebrew בֻּקִּי. So, I cannot provide an etymology, and there seems to be confusion on the meaning of his name as the Strongs, and the Smiths and several other sources list the meaning of his name as wasteful, or wasting; whereas, other sources list the meaning as mouth of YHVH or destruction of YHVH. Now from the Strongs Concordance, where we find that it is Hebrew word number: H1231, - בֻּקִּי, - bûqqı̂y, pronounced - book-ee, and means: From H1238; wasteful; Bukki, the name of two Israelites: - Bukki. Total KJV occurrences: 5.. Now from the Smith Bible Dictionary, where we read: (wasting). Son of Abishua and father of Uzzi fifth from Aaron in the line of the high priests in I Chronicles 6:4,5,51 (Authorized Version) , and in the genealogy of Ezra Ezra 7:4..

Uzzi=Uzzi appears to be the only son of Bukki, and like his father and grand-father before him, there is nothing written concerning the man and there are only 11 verses and matches for the name Uzzi and the Strongs Hebrew word number H5813 associated with it in Fathers Word; therefore, we know nothing of the man except to say that he was in the genealogical line of the High Priest and he had a son whom he and his unnamed wife named Zerahiah. The etymology of the name Uzzi comes from the Hebrew verb עזז (azaz), generally meaning to be strong: Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names thinks that the name Uzzi is an abbreviated form of the name Uzziah, and that thus the letter yod upon which the name Uzzi ends is a remnant of the appellative יה (Yah) = יהו (Yahu) = יו (Yu), which in turn are abbreviated forms of the Tetragrammaton יהוה, YHVH, the sacred name of our Father. Hence Jones translates the name Uzzi with Power Of The Lord. New Open Bible Study Edition (NOBSE) Study Bible Name List doesn't agree with that and sees the final yod as a possessive, and reads My Strength. Note that in Hebrew, the Biblical name Uzzi is spelled the same as Uzi, the name of the notorious Israeli weapon. Now from the Strongs Concordance, where we find that it is Hebrew word number: H5813, - עֻזִּי, - ‛ûzzı̂y, pronounced - ooz-zee, and means: From H5810; forceful; Uzzi, the name of six Israelites: - Uzzi. Total KJV occurrences: 11. Now from the Smiths Bible Dictionary, where we read: (strong). Son of Bukki and father of Zerahiah, in the line of the high priest I Chronicles 6:5,6,51; Ezra 7:4. Though Uzzi was the lineal ancestor of Zadok, (this author emphatically disagrees with this next statement by Dr. Smith) it does not appear that he was ever high priest. He must have been contemporary with, but rather earlier than, Eli..

I Chronicles 6:6 And Uzzi begat Zerahiah (YAH has risen; or, YHVH has risen) (zer-akh-yaw), and Zerahiah begat Meraioth (rebellious; and, rebellious) (mer-aw-yohth),   —>   Zerahiah=Zerahiah continued the line of non-fore-fronted Priests, in other words; he, like his father, grandfather, and great-grandfather before him, we know nothing about as, there are only several verses written concerning them, and they are in the genealogical listings. In Zerahiahs case, there are 4 verses with 5 matches for the name Zerahiah and the Strongs Hebrew word number associated with it H2228 in Fathers Word, 3 of the verses with 4 matches are for Uzzis son and 1 verse and match are for another man named Zerahiah. Of the 4 verses and 5 matches for Uzzis son Zerahiah, they are all in the genealogical listings of I Chronicles 6:6,51; and Ezra 7:4. The etymology of the name Zerahiah consists of two elements, the second being: יה (Yah) = יהו (Yahu) = יו (Yu), which in turn are abbreviated forms of the Tetragrammaton יהוה, YHVH, the sacred name of our Father. The first part of our name comes from the verb זרח (Zarah) , meaning to rise or shine: For a meaning of the name Zerahiah, New Open Bible Study Edition (NOBSE) Study Bible Name List reads YHVH Is Appearing. Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names proposes Rising Of Light Of The Lord. And Brown Driver Briggs (BDB) Theological Dictionary has YAH Has Risen or Shined. Now from the Strongs Concordance, where we find that it is Hebrew word number: H2228, - זְרַחְיָה, - zerachyâh, pronounced - zer-akh-yaw, and means: From H2225 and H3050; Jah has risen; Zerachjah, the name of two Israelites: - Zerahiah. Total KJV occurrences: 5.. Now from the Smiths Bible Dictionary, where we read: (Jehovah has risen). A priest, son of Uzzi and ancestor of Ezra the scribe I Chronicles 6:6,7; Ezra 7:4..

Meraioth=Meraioth was the seventh from Aaron in the genealogy of the High Priests. Like his father, grand father, and several great-grandfathers before him, there is nothing written of him except in the genealogical listings. Seven verses and matches for the name Meraioth and the Strongs Hebrew word number h4812 associated with his name in Fathers Word, and of those seven, 6 are for Zerahiahs son Meraioth, while 1 verse and match are for another man named Meraioth. As such, we know nothing of the man Meraioth, not which years he was High Priest, what he did during his tenure, not how old he was when he became such, not what year he returned Home to Father, nor how old he was when he did so. The etymology of the name Meraioth appears to be a plural form of the noun מרי (meri), meaning rebellion, from the verb מרה ( mara) , meaning to be contentious: For a meaning of the name Meraioth, both New Open Bible Study Edition (NOBSE) Study Bible Name List and Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names read Rebellious. Brown Driver Briggs (BDB) Theological Dictionary does not offer an interpretation of this name. Strongs Concordance and Smiths Bible Dictionary both say rebellious. Now from the Strongs Concordance, where we find that it is Hebrew word number: H4812, - מְרָיוֹת, - merâyôth, pronounced - mer-aw-yohth, and means: Plural of H4811; rebellious; Merajoth, the name of two Israelites: - Meraioth. Total KJV occurrences: 7.. Now from the Smiths Bible Dictionary, where we read: (rebellious). A descendant of Eleazar the son of Aaron and head of a priestly house I Chronicles 6,61; 7:62. It is apparently another Meraioth who comes in between Zadok and Ahitub in the genealogy of Azariah I Chronicles 9:11; Nehemiah 11:11..

I Chronicles 6:7 Meraioth begat Amariah (YAH has said (that is, promised); and, the LORD says i.e. , promises) (am-ar-yaw-hoo), and Amariah begat Ahitub (brother of goodness; and, brother of goodness) (akh-ee-toob),   —>   Were going to see something a little unusual, beginning with Meraioth, who names his son Amariah, in that therell be an identical repetition of the sequence of the three namesAmariah, Ahitub and Zadokseveral verses down from now. This repeating of these names makes it somewhat difficult when researching these man and at what time they served as High Priest.

Amariah=Meraioths son Amariah was the eighth descendant from Aaron, and great, great, great, great, great-grandfather to another High Priest named Amariah, plus there appears to be approximately 7 other men named Amariah. There are 14 verses and 16 matches for the name Amariah and the Strongs Hebrew word number H568 associated with it in Fathers Word and most are in the genealogical listings and are of other men, and as such, we know nothing of Meraioth,s son Amariah, not which years he was High Priest, what he did during his tenure, not how old he was when he became such, not what year he returned Home to Father, nor how old he was when he did so. The etymology of the name Amariah consists of two elements. The first part of the name comes from the Hebrew verb אמר (amar) , meaning to speak: The final part of the name Amariah is יה (Yah) = יהו (Yahu) = יו (Yu), which in turn are abbreviated forms of the Tetragrammaton יהוה, YHVH, the sacred name of our Father. For a meaning of the name Amariah, New Open Bible Study Edition (NOBSE) Study Bible Name List reads YHVH Said. Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names proposes Whom The Lord Spoke Of, i.e. promised. And Brown Driver Briggs (BDB) Theological Dictionary has YAHU Hath Promised. Now from the Strongs Concordance, where we find that it is Hebrew word number: H568, - אֲמַרְיָה, or אֲמַרְיָהוּ, - 'ămaryâh, or 'ămaryâhû, pronounced - am-ar-yaw, or am-ar-yaw-hoo and means: From H559 and H3050; Jah has said (that is, promised); Amarjah, the name of nine Israelites: - Amariah. Total KJV occurrences: 16.. Now from the Smiths Bible Dictionary, where we read: (the Lord says, i.e. promises). Father of Ahitub according to I Chronicles 6:6,52 and son of Meraioth, in the line of the high priests..

Ahitub=Ahitub, son of Amariah, son of Meraioth, is the nineth descended High Priest from Aaron. I say it this way because, there are approximately 3 other men named Ahitub, 1 which is this Ahitubs direct descendant, i.e., loin-to-loin, and the others are collateral descendants, i.e., cousins, or what have you as, they were descended from the Levitical line; however, probably from Ithamars lineage; Hence the 15 verses and 15 matches for the name Ahitub and the Strong’s Hebrew word number H285 associated with it in Father’s Word. Unique is the fact that all four of the Ahitubs were father to famous men: Ahitub the son of Amariah, son of Meraioth, was the father of Zadok who was the priest II Samuel 8:17; I Chronicles 6:7, spelled אחיטוב. The etymology of the name Ahitub consists of two elements: The first part is formed after the word אח (ah), meaning brother or close associate. With the letter yod postfixed to it, it means either my brother, or brother of: The second part of the name Ahitub comes from the familiar word טוב (tob), the Bibles common but difficult word for good: For a meaning of the name Ahitub, Brown Driver Briggs (BDB) Theological Dictionary and New Open Bible Study Edition (NOBSE) Study Bible Name List propose My Brother Is Goodness. Alfred Jones (Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names) reads Brother Of Goodness. Now from the Strongs Concordance, where we find that it is Hebrew word number: H285, - אֲחִיטוּב, - 'ăchı̂yṭûb, pronounced - akh-ee-toob, and means: From H251 and H2898; brother of goodness; Achitub, the name of several priests: - Ahitub. Total KJV occurrences: 15.. Now from the Smiths Bible Dictionary, where we read: (brother of goodness). Son of Amariah, and father of Zadok the high priest, I Chronicles 6:7,8; II Samuel 8:17 of the house of Eleazar..

I Chronicles 6:8 And Ahitub begat Zadok (just; and, just) (tsaw-doke), and Zadok begat Ahimaaz (brother of anger; and, brother of anger) (akh-ee-mah-ats),   —>   Zadok=Ahitubs son Zadok was the tenth descendant in the Priest line from Aaron, and he was great, great, great, great, great-grandfather to another High Priest named Zadok. There are 46 verses with 49 matches for the name Zadok and its associated Strongs Hebrew word number: H6659 in Fathers Word. Zadok was one of two Priests during the reign of king David, the other being Abiathar who was the son of Ahimelech, son of Ahitub, son of Phinehas, son of Eli, the High Priest who raised and guided the Judge Samuel. Zadok was part of the band of mighty menhelpers of war, as it is written in I Chronicles 12:1who joined onto David as he was in Ziklag, keeping himself close to Saul; but, far enough away to stay safe. Zadok remained true to David during Absaloms rebellion and for his loyalty, he rewarded with retaining his high and holy office till his death. Zadok was the founder of an important part of the Priesthood, and from Solomons time his descendants constituted the most prominent family among the order of priests. The etymology of the name Zadok comes from the verb צדק (sadeq), meaning to be just: For a meaning of the name Zadok, New Open Bible Study Edition (NOBSE) Study Bible Name List reads Righteous. Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names has Just. And Brown Driver Briggs (BDB) Theological Dictionary says Just, righteous. Now from the Strongs Concordance, where we find that it is Hebrew word number: H6659, - צָדוֹק, - tsâdôq, pronounced - tsaw-doke, and means: From H6663; just; Tsadok, the name of eight or nine Israelites: - Zadok. Total KJV occurrences: 53. Now from the Smiths Bible Dictionary, where we read: Son of Ahitub, and one of the two chief priests in the time of David and Solomon, Abiathar being the other. Zadok was of the house of Eleazar the son of Aaron I Chronicles 24:3, and eleventh in descent from Aaron I Chronicles 12:28. He joined David at Hebron after Saul's death I Chronicles 12:28, and thenceforth his fidelity to David was inviolable. When Absalom revolted and David fled from Jerusalem, Zadok and all the Levites bearing the ark accompanied him. When Absalom was dead, Zadok and Abiathar were the persons who persuaded the elders of Judah to invite David to return II Samuel 19:11. When Adonijah, in David's old age, set up for king, and had persuaded Joab, and Abiathar the priest, to join his party, Zadok was unmoved, and was employed by David to anoint Solomon to be king in his room I Kings 1:34. For this fidelity he was rewarded by Solomon who "thrust out Abiathar from being priest unto the Lord," and "put in Zadok the priest" in his room I Kings 2:27,35. From this time, however, we hear little of him. Zadok and Abiathar were of nearly equal dignity II Samuel 15:35-36; 19:11. The duties of the office were divided, Zadok ministered before the tabernacle at Gibeon I Chronicles 16:39, Abiathar had the care of the ark at Jerusalem..

Ahimaaz=Zadoks son Ahimaaz was very instrumental during Davids son Absaloms rebellion, uprising, and attempted overthrow of his father, and usurpation of the kingdom. When Davids Commanding General Joab had disobeyed his kings order of dealing gently with the kings son, Ahimaaz had asked Joab if it could be him who told the king of (1) the civil war was ended, and (2) that his son Absalom was now dead. See, Joab didnt want Ahimaaz to go and tell David because, he wanted one of his men to tell David how and what he wanted David to know concerning the death of Absalom. Joab then sent another manone of his ownand only after he had sent his own man did Joab relent and allow Ahimaaz to go. What Joab didnt realize was that, Ahimaaz would outrun his own man and reach David first, which was how he was instrumental; for, he told his king that the civil war was ended; but, he also allowed Joabs man to tell David of Absaloms death. The etymology of the name Ahimaaz consists of two elements. The first part comes from the word אח (ah), meaning brother or figuratively, friend or close associate: The second part of the name Ahimaaz comes from the verb מעץ (maaz), which is a root that isnt used in the narrative of the Hebrew Bible, but according to Brown Driver Briggs (BDB) Theological Dictionary and the renowned theologian Gesenius, is comparable to an Arabic root meaning to be enraged. Another name derived of this same elusive verb is Maaz. For a meaning of the name Ahimaaz, New Open Bible Study Edition (NQBSE) Study Bible Name List and Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names both read Brother Of Anger. BDB Theological Dictionary proposes My Brother Is Wrath. Now from the Strongs Concordance, where we find that it is Hebrew word number: H290, - אֲחִימַעַץ, - 'ăchı̂yma‛ats, pronounced - akh-ee-mah-ats, and means: From H251 and the equivalent of H4619; brother of anger; Achimaats, the name of three Israelites: - Ahimaaz. I Chronicles 6:9 And Ahimaaz begat Azariah (whom YAH helps; or, whom YHVH helps) (Az-ar-yaw-hoo), and Azariah begat Johanan (YHVH favored; or, gift or grace of YAH) (yo-khaw-nawn),   —>   Researching Azariah takes quite a bit of research as, it was common name in Hebraic Biblical times, especially in the families of the priests of the line of Eleazar, whose name has the exact same meaning as Azariah. It is nearly identical, and is often confounded, with Ezra as well as with Zerahiah and Seraiah; and, there are roughly between 21 and 28 men named Azariah in Fathers Word.

Azariah=There is supposedly one slightly expanded version of the name, and it is Azariahu or עזריהו though this author cannot verify this. Ahimaazs son Azariah was the twelfth descendant in the Priest line from Aaron, and was both grandfather and great, great, great, great, great, great-grandfather to another Azariah. Ahimaazs son Azariah was noted for being elevated to the position of High Priest during king Solomons reign; possibly even over his own father Ahimaaz. I say this because of the way I Kings 4:2 reads: I Kings 4:2 And these were the princes which he had; Azariah the son of Zadok the priest,   —>   I cannot explain why the verse lists Azariah as being Zadoks son and not Ahimaazs; unless, it was to clarify and distinguish from hisAzariahsgrandson and 5x great-grandson. Other than this, we know or read nothing of Ahimaazs son Azariah. Dr. Smith in his Smiths Bible Dictionary states that: Ahimaaz having died before Zadok; but, again, I cannot verify this. The etymology of the name Azariah consists of two elements. The first part comes from the verb עזר (azar), meaning to help or support: The final bit of the name Azariah is formed from the appellative יה (Yah) = יהו (Yahu) = יו (Yu), which in turn are abbreviated forms of the Tetragrammaton יהוה, YHVH, or Yahveh, the sacred name of our Father. The name Azariah means Helped Of God (Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names), or Yahveh Has Helped (New Open Bible Study Edition [NOBSE] Study Bible Name List, Brown Driver Briggs [BDB] Theological Dictionary), or more commonly The Lord Has Helped (Harris Archer Waltke [HAW] Theological Wordbook of the Old Testament). Johanan=Johanan was the son of Azariah, the son of Ahimaaz, and father of Azariah. He was the thirteenth descendant in the Priest line from Aaron. There is nothing written in Fathers Word concerning this son of Azariah; so, we dont know anything concerning him. The etymology of the name Johanan consists of two elements. The first part is יה (Yah) = יהו (Yahu) = יו (Yu), which in turn are abbreviated forms of the Tetragrammaton יהוה, YHVH, or Yahveh, the sacred name of Father. The final part of the name comes from the verb חנן (hanan), meaning to be gracious: For a meaning of the name Johanan, New Open Bible Study Edition (NQBSE) Study Bible Name List reads Yahveh Is Gracious. I Chronicles 6:10 And Johanan begat Azariah, (he it is that executed the priests office in the temple that Solomon (peaceful; or, peaceful) (shel-o-mo) built in Jerusalem (founded peaceful; or, the habitation of peace) (Yer-oo-shaw-lah-im):)   —>   Azariah=Johanans son Azariah was the was the fourteenth descendant in the Priest line from Aaron, and was High Priest during the reign of king Azariah, who was also known as Uzziah. The statement in verse I Chronicles 6:10 which reads I Chronicles 6:10 ...(he it is that executed the priests office in the temple that Solomon built)   —>   Was written for this Azariah as, it was this High Priest Azariah who took 80 priests and entered Fathers Temple behind his king, who had gone in to offer incense as can be read in I Chronicles 26:16-21, king Azariah decided he didnt need the High Priest to perform and function for him, hed just do it himself, and as he was doing so and rebuking Azariah the High Priest, Father struck king Azariah with leprosy. Every one of the priests who entered with the High Priest watched on as they saw the leprosy rise up in the middle of his forehead and they grabbed him and thrust him from Fathers Temple. Therefore, Azariah, son of Johanan was noted as being a strong High Priest of Father YHVH. Solomon=Solomon was one of, if not the greatest king to rule Israel. Though his father David was and is the king by which all other kings were compared against, it was Solomon who Father came to in that dream where He asked Solomon Ask what I shall give thee? Solomon replied in I Kings 3: I Kings 3:6 And Solomon said Thou hast shewed unto Thy servant David my father great mercy, according as he walked before Thee in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with Thee; and Thou hast kept for him this great kindness, that Thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day. [3:7] And now, O LORD my God, Thou hast made Thy servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a little child: I know not how to go out or come in. [3:8] And Thy servant is in the midst of Thy People which Thou hast chosen, a great People, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude. [3:9] Give therefore Thy servant an understanding heart to judge Thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this Thy so great a People?. He took over the throne from his father when he was at the tender age of 19,he wasnt Israels youngest king, there were several others who had that distinctionand he reigned for forty years, from 920–880 B.C., he was 59 years old when he returned Home to Father in heaven. Solomon accomplished a lot of things during his reign, and a lot of good things. For the first 20+ years he did very well: He built the Temple; the palatial complex; the House of the Cedar of Lebanon; the house for pharaoh's daughter: the queen; and he brought in much gold and other sundries. It wasn’t until he got the big head after he completed all his building and Father appeared to him, Blessing him with all the wisdom he had, and then wanting to show off that Father Given Wisdom. It was then he started succumbing to the lust of the flesh, and he started accumulating his wives and concubines, and then started worshipping and building altars for his foreign wives false gods, and causing Israel to worship them too. Remember, all of the things that Solomon and Israel did, bringing in the wealth of the world by ships, and it happened in a short span of only forty years. The etymology name Solomon comes from the fertile and familiar root שלם (shalem), meaning to be unbroken or whole: The noun שלמה (shilluma) is identical to our name Sholomoh, and is used in Psalm 91:8 in the meaning of reward or recompense (of the wicked). This illustrates the perhaps anti-intuitive notion that a bad result of something that was bad to begin with, is still very good (or rather: just). Although Psalm 91 is anonymous and tradition demands that Solomon is the great peace-king, his name may have stemmed from Davids deep remorse and grief over losing Solomons older sibling. When Solomon is born, the prophet Nathan receives word from Father that this child is loved by Him. Hence He names him JedidiahThe name Jedidiah is a combination of two elements: The second element of the name Jedidiah is יה, which is the commonly accepted abbreviated form of the Tetragrammaton יהוה, which is YHVH, or Yahveh, the sacred Name of Father. The first element of the name Jedidiah comes from the verb ידד (yadad) , meaning to loveas can be read in II Samuel 12:25, although this name is, sadly, never again used. Jerusalem=Jerusalem, like several other of the cities of our forefathers, is rich in history. As I stated in verse v3:4 above, when our forefathers moved into the Promised Land, JerusalemJebus as it was known as at the time; though, we can also go back as far as the Book of Joshua; Joshua 10:1, and the Book of Judges; Judges 1:8 and read that it had already been called Jerusalemwas in the hands of the Canaanites, and more specifically, the Jebusites. It stayed that way for hundreds of years before David, as king, mustered the troops to fight against the Jebusites and capture Fathers most favorite place in all His Created Universe. We find in the entomology of the name that, without a doubt, the second and dominant part of the name remindedthen and nowof the word שלום (shalom), meaning: peace. The root of this word, שלם (shalem), denotes completeness, wholeness and soundness: In this sense, the name Jerusalem is related to some other famous names from the David saga: Solomon and Absalom. The first part of the name Jerusalem may likely have reminded a Hebrew audience of the verb ירה (yara), throw, cast or shoot; Perhaps the name Jerusalem was never changed, but only Hebraized, because it seems to mean Rain Of Peace. Jerusalem was to be the radiating heart of a world of completeness and wholeness. It seems that history supplied her with a most suiting name. As I said in the opening of the description here; Jerusalem is rich with history, far too much to list here; but, of particular note, or importance is this tidbit: it was the land that our Father took to be His Wife;Ezekiel 16:3but, as can be read in Jeremiah 3:8, because of our forefathers being sottish, He issued her a bill of divorcement. Now from the Strongs Concordance, we find it is Hebrew word number: H3389, - ירוּשׁלם , or ירוּשׁלים , - Yerûshâlaim, or Yerûshâlayim, pronounced - Yer-oo-shaw-lah'-im, or Yer-oo-shaw-lah'-yim , and means: A dual (in allusion to its two main hills (the true pointing, at least of the former reading, seems to be that of H3390)); probably from (the passive participle of) H3384 and H7999, founded peaceful; Jerushalaim or Jerushalem, the capital city of Palestine: - Jerusalem.. I Chronicles 6:11 And Azariah begat Amariah, and Amariah begat Ahitub,   —>   Here begins our second identical repetition of the sequence of the 3 names Amariah, Ahitub, and Zadok, which we saw above in verses v6:7-8. Amariah, son of Azariah was the sixteenth descendant in the Priest line from Aaron, and Ahitub, son of Amariah was the seventeenth.

I Chronicles 6:12 And Ahitub begat Zadok, and Zadok begat Shallum (a requital, that is, [secure] retribution, [venal] a fee; and, retribution) (shal-loom ),   —>
Ahitubs son Zadok was the eighteenth descendant in the Priest line from Aaron.

Shallum=Zadoks son Shallum was the nineteenth descendant in the priest line from Aaron, and he was father to Hilkiah. In I Chronicles 9:11 and Nehemiah 11:11 he is identified as Meshullam. There is nothing written in Fathers Word concerning this son of Zadok; so, we dont know anything concerning him. The etymology of the name Shallum is spelled and pronounced the same as the noun שלום (shillum), meaning recompense, and is spelled the same as but pronounced slightly different from the familiar word שלום (shalom), meaning peace. Both these words come from the verb שלם (shalem), meaning to be unbroken or whole: For a meaning of the name Shallum, New Open Bible Study Edition (NOBSE) Study Bible Name List reads Recompense and Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names has Retribution. Brown Driver Briggs (BDB) Theological Dictionary doesn't interpret the name Shallum but does list it under the verb שלם (shalem). I Chronicles 6:13 And Shallum begat Hilkiah (portion of YAH; or, YAH is my portion) (Khil-kee-yaw-hoo), and Hilkiah begat Azariah,   —>   Hilkiahs son Azariah was the third Azariah who was also the twenty-first descendant in the Priest line from Aaron, and he was father to Seriah.

Hilkiah=Shallums son Hilkiah is the twentieth descendant in the Priest line from Aaron, and he was father to the third Azariah in the Priest line. Hilkiah was the High Priest during the reign of king Josiah, approximately 535-495B.C.and was in charge of repairing Fathers Temple. It was during this cleaning and restoration of Fathers Temple that, the workers found the copy of The Book of the Law of YHVH given by Moses. Hilkiah, sadly unsure what to do or how to proceed, handed the Torah to the scribe Shaphan to take to the king in order to ask him what they should do with the Book. After taking it to king Josiah and reading some of it to him, young Josiah told Shaphan to go back to Hilkiah and enquire of Father to find out what He would have them do. I said sadly because, Hilkiah, being the High Priest, should have known what to do himself without seeking counsel of the king; but, sadly, it had been so long since anybody had seen the Torah that, nobody really knew what it was and what they were supposed to do. This Pastor and author cannot fathom how the High Priest was operating as High Priest, where he was getting his guidance or anything as, it was supposed to be from the Torah and seeking Father. Anyway, what does Hilkiah do upon hearing what Shaphan told him the king said? He goes, along with a few others, to the College in Jerusalem in order to seek the advice of Huldah the Prophetess to have her seek Father as to what He would like for them to do. Now, I dont know about you brethren; but, I just cannot understand how the High Priest of Father YHVH had to seek another person to seek Father for him, that is his job! It just shows us what state of decay the papacy was in at that time. Huldah immediately repliedwithout having need of seeking counsel of Father YHVHthus saith the LORD, she further continued telling Hilkiah and those with him that Father YHVH was going to bring evil upon Jerusalem and its inhabitants because they had forsaken Him. Hilkiah reported back to his king what Father said through His Prophetess, and upon hearing what Father said, the king made every person within the confides of Judah go to Fathers House, where the young king told them what Father said, and then, read to them the Torah in its entirety. Hilkiah should have been ashamed! With having said all that, this Pastor and author also realizes that it was not totally Hilkiahs fault as, his father and grandfathers failed him, their kings and the entire House of Judah by not sticking true to Father and His Law. The etymology of the name Hilkiah occurs in two forms in the Bible, with and without a final letter ו (waw). Its quite common that a name that ends on יה (yah) also occurs with ending יהו (yahu); both are truncated forms of the name of the Lord, יהוה (YHVH), or Yahveh, the sacred name of our Father. Its possible that this name, irrespective of how it was spelled, sounded like it ended on an oaw-sound, and since spelling then wasnt as strictly standardized as it is now, the difference between חלקיה and חלקיהו may be arbitrary. But its equally possible that the difference between these two forms expresses a subtlety which modern criticism can not fathom (yet). The name Hilkiah consists of two elements. The first part is probably derived from the verb חלק (halaq I), meaning to divide, share or apportion: The second part of our name is יה (Yah) = יהו (Yahu) = יו (Yu), which in turn are abbreviated forms of the Tetragrammaton יהוה, YHVH, or Yahveh. And in between sits the letter י (yod), which serves to create a possessive form: my portion, or portion of. For a meaning of the name Hilkiah, New Open Bible Study Edition (NOBSE) Study Bible Name List reads Yahveh Is My Portion, Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names has Portion Of The Lord, and Brown Driver Briggs (BDB) Theological Dictionary proposes My Portion Is Yah. I Chronicles 6:14 And Azariah begat Seraiah (Jah has prevailed) (ser-aw-yaw-hoo), and Seraiah begat Jehozadak (YHVH-righted; or, YHVH justifies) (yeho-ho-tsaw-dawk),   —>   Seraiah=Azariahs son Seraiah was the twenty-second descendant in the Priest line from Aaron, and he was father to Jehozadakalso spelled Jozadak in Ezra 3:2,8; 5:2; 10:18; and Nehemiah 12:26 or Josedech in Haggai 1:1,12,14; 2:24; and Zechariah 6:6who went into captivity when Father brought about the captivity of the House of Judah in the year 477B.C.. Seraiah was also either father to, or grandfather to Ezra, scribe of the Book of Ezra. It was Jehozadak who went into captivity, not his father Seraiah as, Seraiah was High Priest when Judah fell, he was rounded up, taken to Riblah, and there murdered. The etymology of the name Seraiah consists of two elements, the final one being יה (Yah) = יהו (Yahu) = יו (Yu), which in turn are abbreviated forms of the Tetragrammaton יהוה, YHVH, or Yahveh, the sacred name of Father. The first part of our name appears to be related to the following root cluster: שְׂרָ. Jehozadak went into captivity and was deported along with Zadekiah and many other essential people, when Father brought about the captivity of the House of Judah in the year 477B.C., after his father Seraiah was slain at Riblah. Dr. Bullinger in his Companion notesin his Companion Bibleat verse Ezra 7:1 notes the following: By this genealogy (that of Ezra 7:1) (vv. 1-5), compared with I Chronicles 6:15, Ezra was brother to Jehozadak and uncle to the high priest Joshua. Ezra was deported with Zedekiah.. The etymology of the name Jehozadak consists of two elements, the first part being יה (Yah) = יהו (Yahu) = יו (Yu), which in turn are abbreviated forms of the Tetragrammaton יהוה, YHVH, or Yahveh, the sacred name of Father. The second part of the name Jehozadak/Jozadak comes from the verb צדק (sadeq), meaning to be just: For a meaning of the name Jehozadak/Jozadak, New Open Bible Study Edition (NOBSE) Study Bible Name List reads Yahveh Has Justified. He himself never attained the high priesthood, but he was the father of Jeshua the high priest, and of all his successors till the pontificate of Alcimus Ezra 3:2; Nehemiah 12:26, etc..

I Chronicles 6:15 And Jehozadak went into captivity, when the LORD carried away Judah and Jerusalem by the hand of Nebuchadnezzar.   —>   Jehozadak did indeed go into captivity and was deported to Babylon by Nebuchadnezzar along with Zedekiah and many other of the royal seed when Father brought about the captivity of our forefathers of the House of Judah.

With that being said, we also read in II Kings 25 that, Ishmael, the son of Nethaniah, the son of Elishama, of the seed royal, came with ten men with him and they took all the people, both small and great, and the captains of the armies, arose, and came to Egypt: for they were afraid of the Chaldees. This fleeing to Egypt was in defiance to the counsel of Father through His Prophet Jeremiah whom Ishmael and company took with them. Egypt itself would also fall to the king of Babylon; so really, there no sense in going back down to the land Father told them they were not to ever lean upon. Though they were not to go, I guess you could almost say that in a small sense that it was a good thing as, not taken into captivity were the 3 daughters of king Zedekiah who were taken by Fathers Prophet Jeremiah, who took them to Egypt with him when he himself was taken there, as can be read in Jeremiah 42 and 43:8-13. Jeremiah later ended up leaving Egypt and heading out to the British Isles, and when he did, he took those 3 young ladies to the British Isles with him. It was because of all this, that, the royal seed became part of the royal seed of the British Isles, all of what I state here is easily documented in history. One daughter married into royalty into Spain; another one of the three young ladies, a lass named Scota went to Ireland and married the son of the king of Ireland, and they together moved onto a new parcel of land and called it Scotland. One of the offspring of this union grew up and married into the royal line of Great Brittan. There would be two more over-turnings before the throne of David would end in England, where the line of David sits to this day. So, whatever royal line of David existed at the time of this writing in I Chronicles 6, over seventy years after the captivityremember, the Books of Chronicles were written after the captivity had endedthe royal of David was not in the middle east, nor in Judah, but, in Ireland. Yes, the Priest line, along with many other non-essential peoplealong with a whole slew of the nethinimswere there; but, like I said, Davids line through Zedekiahs daughters, was now in the British Isles and Ireland.

6:16-48 Gershom, Kohath,
   and Merari.

I Chronicles 6:16 The sons of Levi; Gershom, Kohath, and Merari.   —>   If youre paying attention brethren, you should be questioning something here. That something is the spelling of Levis son Gershoms name. In this same ChapterI Chronicles 6in verse v6:1, its spelled with an n; whereas, here in this verse and the next6:17we find that it is spelled with a m. Why the difference? Dr. Bullinger notes in his companion notes in his Companion Bible at verse v6:1, the following, n is the Western Massorite spelling; the Eastern spelling being Gershom..

Levis three sons Gershom, Kohath, and Merari, like their father Levi, were not high Priests, nor were Kohaths sons Amram, Izhar, Hebron, or Uzziel. It would be Amrams son Aaron who would be the first High Priest.

I Chronicles 6:17 And these be the names of the sons of Gershom; Libni (white; and, white) (lib-nee), and Shimei (famous; or, renowned) (shim-ee).   —>
Gershon(m)only had 2 sons whose names were Libni and Shimei. They were uncles to Miriam, Aaron and Moses. Both were born to him sometime while our forefathers were in Egypt, and prior to the Exodus, and also most probably before the births of Miriam, Aaron and Moses.

Turn with me to Numbers 3, and we can read of the responibilities of Gershoms descendants when Father brought our forefathers out of Egypt: Numbers 3:18 And these are the names of the sons of Gershon by their families; Libni, and Shimei.   —>   Skip down to verse v3:21: Numbers 3:21 Of Gershon was the family of the Libnites, and the family of the Shimites: these are the families of the Gershonites.   —>   Now well see the numbers of all the families of the Gershonites. Numbers 3:22 Those that were numbered of them, according to the number of all the males, from a month old and upward, even those that were numbered of them were seven thousand and five hundred.   —>   The total male population of the Gershonites from one month old and up was 7,500. So, lets see where they will be placed according to how the tabernacle is set. Numbers 3:23 The families of the Gershonites shall pitch behind the tabernacle westward.   —>   The Gershonites will be between the tent of the tabernacle and the tribes\camps of Ephraim. Numbers 3:24 And the chief of the house of the father of the Gershonites shall be Eliasaph the son of Lael.   —>   This is the only mention of Lael in Fathers word so, we dont know much about him; but, he was Gershoms grandsonsee, we know so little about him that we dont even know whether he was Libni or Shiemis sonand thus, cousin to Miriam, Aaron and Moses. His name means (Belonging) to EL; or, of EL, and his son Eliasaph (El (is) gatherer)Miriam, Aaron and Moses nephewwas chief of the Tribe of the Gershonites as our forefathers came of bondage to the Egyptians and were wandering the wilderness. Numbers 3:25 And the charge of the sons of the Gershon in the tabernacle of the congregation shall be the tabernacle, and the tent, and the covering thereof, and the hanging for the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. Numbers 3:26 And the hangings of the court, and the curtain for the door of the court, which is by the tabernacle, and by the altar round about, and the cords of it for all the service thereof.   —>   The duties and responsibilities of the Gershonites were the safeguarding, setting up and taking down, and carrying of the tent, and all the coverings of the tent and doors etc., in other words, all the canvas\cloth items concerning the tent and thereof belonged to the Gershonites. We can see the number of and(s) within these two verses (just like in Genesis 1) and can know that they are a polysyndeton, meaning there is much more than just what is being said in these verses.

Libni=Gershons son Libni was the elder of 2 sonshe was brother to Shimeiand the father of Jahath יַחַת, Strongs Hebrew word number H3189, and the people known as the Libnites. There are only 5 verses with 5 matches for the name Libni and the Strongs Hebrew word number H3845 associated with it in Fathers Word and as such, we know nothing of this son of Gershon(m); except this, in I Chronicles 23, he is called Laadan לַעְדָּן, Strongs Hebrew word number H3936. The etymology of the name Libni comes from the verb לבן (laben), meaning to be or become white: The letter י (yod) upon which our name ends, may either create an adjective (white), a possessive form (my whiteness), or may be a remnant of יה (Yah) = יהו (Yahu) = יו (Yu), which in turn are abbreviated forms of the Tetragrammaton יהוה, YHVH, or Yahveh, the sacred name of Father. For a meaning of the name Libni, New Open Bible Study Edition (NOBSE) Study Bible Name List reads White, Pure. Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names only has White. Brown Driver Briggs (BDB) Theological Dictionary does not interpret this name but does list it under the verb לבן (laben), meaning to be or become white. Now from the Strongs Concordance, where we find that it is Hebrew word number: H3845, - לִבְנִי, - libnı̂y, pronounced - lib-nee, and means: From H3835; white; Libni, an Israelite: - Libni. Total KJV occurrences: 5. Now from the Smiths Bible Dictionary, where we read: (white). Shimei=Gershons son Libni was the younger of 2 sonshe was brother to Libniand the father of the people known as the Shimites. There are 38 verses with 42 matches for the name Shimei and the Strongs Hebrew word number H8096 associated with it in Fathers Word, there are also approximately 16 different men named Shimei in Fathers Word, as such, the actual number of verses and matches for Gershons son Shimei are only 4: Numbers 3:18; I Chronicles 6:17; 23:7,9, all are in the genealogical listings and as such, we really know nothing of the man Shimei. The etymology of the name Shimei comes from the verb שמע (shama), meaning to hear: For a meaning of the name Shimei, New Open Bible Study Edition (NOBSE) Study Bible Name List reads Renown. Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names has Famous. Now from the Strongs Concordance where we find that it is Hebrew word number: H8096, - שִׁמְעִי, - shim‛ı̂y, pronounced - shim-ee, and means: From H8088; famous; Shimi, the name of twenty Israelites: - Shimeah [from the margin] , Shimei, Shimhi, Shimi. Son of Gershon the son of Levi Numbers 3:18; I Chronicles 6:17,29; 23:7,9,10; Zechariah 12:13, called Shimi in Exodus 6:17 (B.C. after 1706)..

I Chronicles 6:18 And the sons of Kohath were, Amram, and Izhar (oil (as producing light), figuratively anointing: - + anointed, oil; or, oil) (yits-hawr), and Hebron (seat of association; or, alliance) (kheb-rone), and Uzziel (strength of YAH; or, my strength is YHVH) (ooz-zee-ale).
—>   Izhar=And oncein Numbers 3:19spelled Izehar. Grandson to Levi, son of Kohath, brother to Amramfather of Miriam, Aaron and MosesHebron, and Uzziel. Korah was born while our forefathers were still in captivity to the Egyptians, prior to the exodus. He was father to a famous man in Fathers Word, one named Korah. Korah was famousand not for a good reasonbecauseas can be read in Numbers 16he was foolish enough to try and challenge Fathers Anointed and Chosen: Moses, Aaron and Miriam. There are 8 verses with 9 matches for the name Izhar and the Strongs Hebrew word number H3324 associated with it in Fathers Word. All the listings are in the genealogical listings, and as such, we know nothing of the man Izhar except to say that he was a son of Levis son Kohath. The etymology of the name Izhar comes from the root צהר (shr), which those at Abarim Publications think has to do with being at the highest point: The meaning of the name Izhar obviously depends wholly on what meaning we render the root. Since those at Abarim Publications are of the opinion that the root in essence declares being at a zenith of some sort, they would translate the name Izhar primarily with He Is On Top and secondarily with He Produces Oil. Note the important relation between Zechariahs vision and the name Gethsemane. The learned body behind the New Open Bible Study Edition (NOBSE) Study Bible Name List believes that the root essentially means to be bright, and translates the name Izhar with Shining. Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names quotes Zechariah 4:14 and from there derives that the name Izhar must mean Anointed. Brown Driver Briggs (BDB) Theological Dictionary does not offer an explanation of our name but does list it under the root צהר (shr). Now from the Strongs Concordance, where we find that it is Hebrew word number: H3324, - יִצְהָר, - yitshâr, pronounced - yits-hawr, and means: The same as H3323; oil (as producing light); figuratively anointing: - + anointed, oil; Total KJV occurrences: 9. Hebron=Grandson to Levi, son to Kohath, brother to Amram, Izhar and Uzziel, and uncle to Miriam, Aaron and Moses. Born to Kohath while our forefathers were still in captivity to Egypt before the exodus.  There are 68 verses with 73 matches for the name Hebron and the Strongs Hebrew word number H2275 associated with it in Fathers Word; however, most of those listings are for the city Hebron, not for Kohaths son Hebron. As such, we know virtually nothing of the man. The etymology of the name Hebron comes from the root-verb חבר (habar) , meaning to join: The on-part of the name Hebron comes from the standard waw-nun extension that personifies or localizes the idea or action of a root. For a meaning of the name Hebron, Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names proposes Confederation. Brown Drive Briggs (BDB) Theological Dictionary suggests Association or League. New Open Bible Study Edition (NOBSE) Study Bible Name List reads Alliance. Now from the Strongs Concordance, where we find that it is Hebrew word number: H2275, - חֶבְרוֹן, - chebrôn, pronounced - kheb-rone, and means: From H2267; seat of association; Chebron, a place in Palestine, also the name of two Israelites: - Hebron. Total KJV occurrences: 71.. Now from the Smiths Bible Dictionary, where we read: (alliance). The third son of Kohath, who was the second son of Levi Exodus 6:18; Numbers 3:19, I Chronicles 6:2,18; 23:12. He was the founder of a family of Hebronites, Numbers 3:27, 26:58; I Chronicles 26:23,30,31, or Bene-Hebron I Chronicles 15:9; 23:19..

Uzziel=Grandson to Levi, son to Kohath, brother to Amram, Izhar and Hebron, and uncle to Miriam, Aaron and Moses. Born to Kohath while our forefathers were still in captivity to Egypt before the exodus. There are 16 verses with 16 matches for the name Uzziel and the Strongs Hebrew word number H5816 associated with it in Fathers Word, all of them are in the genealogical listings, or of his sons, or of other men named Uzziel;, therefore, we know nothing of the man named uzziel. The etymology of the name Uzziel is a compilation of two elements. The final part is equal to the name אל, El, the abbreviated form of אלהים, Elohim, denoting the genus God: The first part of the name Uzziel comes from the Hebrew verb עזז (’azaz), meaning to be strong: The yod in the middle is probably a possessive; my strength, or strength of. For a meaning of the name Uzziel, New Open Bible Study Edition (NOBSE) Study Bible Name List reads God Is My Strength. Brown Driver Briggs (BDB) Theological Dictionary reads My Strength Is El. Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names has Strength Of God. A famous modern bearer of this name is Uziel Gal whose name is commonly transliterated with only one z, but which is identical to the Biblical name Uzziel. Uziel Gal is the designer of the notorious Uzi weapon. Now from the Strongs Concordance, where we find that it is Hebrew word number: H5816, - עֻזִּיאֵל, - ûzzı̂y'êl, pronounced - ooz-zee-ale, and means: From H5797 and H410; strength of YAH; Uzziel, the name of six Israelites: - Uzziel. I Chronicles 6:19 The sons of Merari; Mahli (sick; and, sick) (makh-lee), and Mushi (sensitive; or, yielding) (moo-shee). And these are the families of the Levites according to their fathers.  —>
Mahli=And oncein Exodus 6:19spelled Mahali. Grandson to Levi, son to Merari, brother to Mushi, and uncle to Miriam, Aaron and Moses. Born to Merari while our forefathers were still in captivity to Egypt before the exodus. There are 11 verses with 12 matches for the name Mahali and the Strongs Hebrew word number H4249 associated with it in Fathers Word. Eight of the 11 verses and 12 matches are for Meraris son Mahli, all of them are in the genealogical listings, except for the last one which is found in Ezra 8:18, and even that mention maintains the organizational structure after the return from the Babylonian captivity. As all the mentions are in the genealogical listings, we know nothing of the man: Mahli, except to say what has already been said. The etymology of the name Mahli comes from the root-verb חלה (hala) meaning to be weak or sick: Our name Mahli is probably a commemorative name, designed to remember a period of illness or (national?) weakness. Perhaps in its intent it also reflects on the name Enosh. For a meaning of the name Mahli, New Open Bible Study Edition (NOBSE) Study Bible Name List reads Weak, Silly. Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names proposes the more formal Infirmity. Brown Driver Briggs (BDB) Theological Dictionary does not interpret our name and also doesnt list it under the verb חלה (hala), but rather under the מ. Now from the Strongs Concordance, where we find that it is Hebrew word number: H4249, - מַחְלִי, - machlı̂y, pronounced - makh-lee, and means: From H2470; sick; Machli, the name of two Israelites: - Mahli. Total KJV occurrences: 12.. Now from the Smiths Bible Dictionary, where we read: (sick). Son of Merari, the son of Levi and ancestor of the family of the Mahlites Numbers 3:20; I Chronicles 6:19,29; 24:26..

Mushi=Grandson to Levi, son to Merari, brother to Mahli, and uncle to Miriam, Aaron and Moses. Born to Merari while our forefathers were still in captivity to Egypt before the exodus. There are 8 verses with 8 matches for the name Mushi and the Strongs Hebrew word number H4187 associated with it in Fathers Word. All the verses and matches for Meraris son Mushi, are in the genealogical listings and as such, we know nothing of the man: Mushi, except to say what has already been said. The etymology of the name Mushi from either of the two verbs מוש: The letter י (yod) upon which our name ends, may either create an adjective (touchy), a possessive form (my departure), or may be a remnant of the Tetragrammaton יהוה, YHVH, or Yahveh, the personal and sacred name of Father. For a meaning of the name Mushi, New Open Bible Study Edition (NOBSE) Study Bible Name List appears to derive our name from the verb מוש, (mush I) , meaning to depart or remove, and reads Drawn Out. Alfred Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names insists that the verb מוש (mush II) can also mean to prove (by feeling) and proposes Proved Of The Lord. Brown Driver Briggs (BDB) Theological Dictionary does not offer an interpretation of the name Mushi, but does list it under the verb מוש (mush II) , meaning depart or remove. Now from the Strongs Concordance, where we find that it is Hebrew word number: H4187, - מוּשִׁי, or מֻשִּׁי, - mûshı̂y, or mûshshı̂y, pronounced - moo-shee, or mush-shee, and means: From H4184; sensitive; Mushi, a Levite: - Mushi. The next 2 verses bring us the grandsons, great-grandsons, ect. of Gershom, and Im not going to provide a detailed description of each of these men.

I Chronicles 6:20 Of Gershom; Libni his son, Jahath his son, Zimmah his son,

I Chronicles 6:21 Joah his son, Iddo his son, Zerah his son, Jeaterai his son.

The next 7 verses bring us the grandsons, great-grandsons, ect. of Kohath, and as Ive already provided a detailed description of some of them above, I wont go into a further detailed description, with the minor exception to say that, in verse v6:22, Amminadab is the same as Izhar. In verse v6:27, I will give a description of Elkanah, and in verse v6:28, I will give a description of Samuel.

I Chronicles 6:23 Elkanah his son, and Ebiasaph his son, and Assir his son,

I Chronicles 6:25 And the sons of Elkanah; Amasai, and Ahimoth.

I Chronicles 6:26 As for Elkanah: the sons of Elkanah; Zophai his son, and Nahath his son,

I Chronicles 6:27 Eliab his son, Jeroham his son, Elkanah (EL has obtained; and, EL-provided) (El-kaw-naw) his son.   —>   Elkanah=Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, had two wives: Peninnah and Hannah. Peninnah had many children both, sons and and daughters by Elkanah; but, Hannah, whose name means Grace, was childless like several other famous women in Fathers Word, Namely: Sarai; Rachel; Samsons motherManoahs wifeand Elizabeth. Hannah Prayed to Father and petitioned Him specifically for a son, and vowed that, should He grant her petition, her son would be under the vow of a NazariteNumbers 6from birth. Father granted Hannah petition, and therefore, Elkanah became the father to Fathers Judge, Priest and Prophet: Samuel. The same Samuel for who two Books in Fathers Word were named. After Hannah bare Samuel to Elkanah, she bare to him three more sons and two daughters. The etymology of the name Elkanah consists of two parts: the first part is אל, El, the abbreviated form of אלהים, Elohim, denoting the genus God; The second part comes from the root cluster קנה ,קין and קנן: For a meaning of the name Elkanah, New Open Bible Study Edition (NOBSE) Study Bible Name List reads God Has Possessed. Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names reads God Has Redeemed, and submits a lengthy defense on why the name Elkanah cannot mean God Has Created because the verb קנה never means to create. Brown Driver Briggs (BDB) Theological Dictionary is not impressed with Jones and renders God Has Created or God Has Taken Possession. Now from the Strongs Concordance, where we find that it is Hebrew word number: H511, - אֶלְקָנָה, - 'elqânâh, pronounced - El-kaw-naw, and means: From H410 and H7069; EL has obtained; Elkanah, the name of seven Israelites: - Elkanah. Total KJV occurrences: 21.. Now from the Smiths Bible Dictionary, where we read: (God-provided). Another Kohathite Levite, father of Samuel the illustrious judge and prophet I Chronicles 6:27,34. All that is known of him is contained in the above notices and in I Samuel 1:1,4,8,19,21,23; and I Samuel 2:11,20..

I Chronicles 6:28 And the sons of Samuel (heard of EL) (shem-oo-ale); the firstborn Vashni (YHVH (is his) God; or, to whom YHVH is God) (yo-ale), and Abiah (father [that is worshipper] of YAH) (ab-ee-yaw-hoo).   —>   Vashni=There is quite some controversy concerning the name Vashni; first is the fact, that, though Samuels son is identified as such here in I Chronicles 6:28, we find that he is identified as Joel in I Samuel 8:2. Now, it was not unusualas we have discovered since we began studying Fathers Word Verse–by–Verse, Chapter–by–Chapter, and Book–by–Bookfor a person to have two different names; but, the controversy comes from the fact as to whether the name Vashni is a Biblical name or not. Almost for sure it isnt of Hebraic origin, it appears to be either Persian or more likely Babylonian in origin. Knowing that the Books of Chronicles were written after the Babylonian captivity, this author believes that the name Vashni is of Babylonian origin and was applied possibly by the kenites who had taken over the scribeship of Father,s Word. I believe Samuels eldest sons name is correctly identified as Joel as we read in I Samuel 8:2.

Samuel=Son of Elkanah and his wife Hannahwhose name means Grace. Hannah was childless like several other famous women in Fathers Word, Namely: SaraiAbrahams wifes name be before Father changed it to SarahRachelJacobs wife and Joseph and Benjamins motherSamsons motherManoahs un-named wifeand ElisabethZacharias wife and John the Baptists motherall of whom Father had shut up their wombs in order that He bring forth a child to do his Will. Hannah went up to Fathers Temple in Shiloh and Prayed to Father, petitioning Him specifically for a son, vowing that, should He grant her petition; then, her son would be under the vow of a NazariteNumbers 6from birth. Father did indeed grant Hannah her petition, and therefore, Elkanah became the father to Fathers JudgeI Samuel 7:6PriestI Samuel 7:9and ProphetI Samuel 3:20: Samuel. Samuel was still a young boyapproximately 12 years old according to the Biblical Historian Josephuswhen he was placed in Fathers Tabernacle to minister before Father. He then took over the Priesthood after Father called Eli Home to Him. It was Samuel whom Father used to anoint His first 2 man-kings of the House of Israel: first Saul as read in I Samuel 9 and then David in I Samuel 16 the first of two Books named after him. Samuel was a good Judge, Priest and Prophet, and he reigned over Israel for 40 years, from 1040B.C. to 1000B.C.. However, when he had gotten up in his years, he did as Eli had did before him and he elevated his two sons Joelalso called Vashni in I Chronicles 6:28and Abiah to the position of priest. That wasnt so bad; but, also like Eli before him, when his sons became an abomination to both the People and more importantly, Father, he didnt do anything to put a stop to their practices. Therefore, the People rejected the Priesthood, or more precisely, they rejected Father in favor of a man king to rule over them. It was then that Father used him to anoint His first two man kings. The etymology of the name Samuel: There are two ways to go with the name Samuel, although it obviously consists of two elements, and the final one is אל, El, the abbreviated form of אלהים, Elohim, denoting the genus GodFather in His Role of Creator of all things: The first part of the name Samuel may come from the noun שם (shem), meaning name. The other way to go to take the first part of the name Samuel from the verb שמע (shama), meaning to hear: For a meaning of the name Samuel, New Open Bible Study Edition (NOBSE) Study Bible Name List goes with the noun שם and reads Name Of God and adds: a godly name. Alfred Jones (Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names) goes with the verb שמע and proposes Heard Of God. Jones explanation is attractive because it seems to fit the story (Hannah prayed for a child and was heard); but, also because, this verb is the base of the name Simeon, which is the name of the tribe where the name Samuel originated. A drawback of Jones explanation is that it fails to address what might have happened to the letter ע (ayin) thats part of the verb but not of the name Samuel. Still, note that the third son of Jesse is named שמעא (Shimea, which is related to Samuel) in I Chronicles 2:13 but שמעה (Shimeah) in II Samuel 13:3 and 13:32, and שמה (Shammah) in 1 Samuel 16:9 and 17:13. The latter variation also omits the letter ayin. Now from the Strongs Concordance, where we find that it is Hebrew word number: H8050, - שְׁמוּאֵל, - shemû'êl, pronounced - shem-oo-ale, and means: From the passive participle of H8085 and H410; heard of YAH; Shemuel, the name of three Israelites: - Samuel, Shemuel. Total KJV occurrences: 140.. Now from the Smiths Bible Dictionary, where we read: Was the son of Elkanah and Hannah, and was born at Ramathaim-zophim, among the hills of Ephraim [RAMAH No. 2]. Before his birth he was dedicated by his mother to the office of a Nazarite and when a young child, 12 years old according to Josephus he was placed in the temple, and ministered unto the Lord before Eli. It was while here that he received his first prophetic call I Samuel 3:1-18. He next appears, probably twenty years afterward, suddenly among the people, warning them against their idolatrous practices I Samuel 7:3,4. Then followed Samuels first and, as far as we know, only military achievement, I Samuel 7:5-12, but it was apparently this which raised him to the office of judge. He visited, in the discharge of his duties as ruler, the three chief sanctuaries on the west of Jordan --Bethel, Gilgal and Mizpeh I Samuel 7:16. His own residence was still native city, Ramah, where he married, and two sons grew up to repeat under his eyes the same perversion of high office that he had himself witnessed in his childhood in the case of the two sons of Eli. In his old age he shared his power with them I Samuel 8:1-4, but the people dissatisfied, demanded a king, and finally anointed under Gods direction, and Samuel surrendered to him his authority I Samuel 12:1, ... though still remaining judge I Samuel 7:15, He was consulted far and near on the small affairs of life I Samuel 9:7,8. From this fact, combined with his office of ruler, an awful reverence grew up around him. No sacrificial feast was thought complete without his blessing Ibid I Samuel 9:13. A peculiar virtue was believed to reside in his intercession. After Saul was rejected by God, Samuel anointed David in his place and Samuel became the spiritual father of the psalmist-king. The death of Samuel is described as taking place in the year of the close of Davids wanderings. It is said with peculiar emphasis, as if to mark the loss, that all the Israelites were gathered together from all parts of this hitherto-divided country, and lamented him, and buried him within his own house, thus in a manner consecrated by being turned into his tomb I Samuel 25:1. Samuel represents the independence of the moral law, of the divine will, as distinct from legal or sacerdotal enactments, which is so remarkable a characteristic of all the later prophets. He is also the founder of the first regular institutions of religious instructions and communities for the purposes of education..

Joel=Also called Vashni in I Chronicles 6:28. The elder son of Samuel, older brother to Abiah, and father to Heman the Levitical singer during the reign of David. Joel and his brother Abiah did just as Elis sons Hopni and Phinehas, the difference between the two sets of boys was, that, Father recalled Elis sons Home to Him; however, He did not do that with Samuels sons, instead, giving the Nation of the House of Israel a man king to rule over them. What were Joel and Abiah doing? They perverted judgment, in other words, they stooped to taking bribes and extorting money from the people; thus, accepting unjust and ungodly; or, ill-gotten gains from the People. It was partly because of these actions of Joel and Abiah, and Samuels lack of disciplining them for it, that the People demanded of Samuel to put a man king to rule over them instead of he and his sons. I say partly because; in reality, it was Father who they were rejecting, and our forefathers had rejected Father and His rule over them since He brought them up out of their bondage to the Egyptians. They had objected to and rejected Moses, Joshua, every Judge and Priest Father had appointed over them, and now, they were demanding of Samuel, another man because he and his sons had let them down. What they really wanted; sadly, was to be left alone to serve the heathen gods of the people all around them. The etymology of the name Joel is most commonly interpreted to be a combination of two elements. The first element is יה (Yah) = יהו (Yahu) = יו (Yu), which in turn are abbreviated forms of the Tetragrammaton יהוה, YHVH, or Yahveh, the sacred and personal name of Father. The second element of the name Joel is אל, El, the abbreviated form of אלהים, Elohim, denoting the genus GodFather in His Role of Creator of all things. The name Joel is the name Elijah reversed and means Yah Is El, or Yahveh Is Elohim, or The Lord Is God. However, in cognate languages this name exists as well, but means something else. That something else also exists in Hebrew, namely the verb יאל (yaיal I & II): The past tense forms of the two verbs יאל are identical to the name Joel (see for instance Exodus 2:21, Joshua 17:12, etc). Hence the name Joel also means He Was Foolish, He Was Willing/
Determined. For a meaning of the name Joel, New Open Bible Study Edition (NOBSE) Study Bible Name List reads Yahveh Is God. Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names reads Lord Of God, The Lord Is God. Now from the Strongs Concordance, where we find that it is Hebrew word number: H3100, - יוֹאֵל, - yô'êl, pronounced - yo-ale, and means: From H3068 and H10; YHVH [is his] God; Joel, the name of twelve Israelites: - Joel. Total KJV occurrences: 19.. Now from the Smiths Bible Dictionary, where we read: (to whom Jehovah is God). Eldest son of Samuel the prophet I Samuel 8:2; I Chronicles 6:33; 15:17, and father of Heman the singer..

Abiah=Second and youngest son of Samuel, younger brother to Joelalso called Vashni in I Chronicles 6:28. Abiah and his older brother Joel were as corrupt, evil, and perverted as Elis two sons Hopni and Phinehas, the difference between the two sets of boys was that in the case of Hopni and Phinehas, Father called them Home to Him; whereas, with Samels two sons He did not call them Home, He instead gave the Nation of the House of Israel a man king to rule over them. What were Abiah and Joel doing? They perverted judgment, in other words, they stooped to taking bribes and extorting money from the people; thus, accepting unjust and ungodly; or, ill-gotten gains from the People. It was partly because of these actions of Abiah and Joel, and Samuels lack of disciplining them for it, that the People demanded of Samuel to put a man king to rule over them instead of he and his sons. I say partly because; in reality, it was Father who they had rejected, and our forefathers had rejected Father and His rule over them since He brought them up out of their bondage to the Egyptians. They had objected to and rejected Moses, Joshua, every Judge and Priest Father had appointed over them, and now, they were demanding of Samuel, another man because he and his sons had let them down. What they really wanted; sadly, was to be left alone to serve the heathen gods of the people all around them. The etymology of the name Abiah consists of two elements. The first element is the common word אב (ab), meaning father: The central י yod may be considered a remnant of the possessive yod of the compound אבי meaning my father, or father of. If so, then it overlaps with the yod of the second part of the name Abijah. That second part, namely, is the appellative יה (Yah) = יהו (Yahu) = יו (Yu), which in turn are abbreviated forms of the Tetragrammaton יהוה, YHVH, or Yahveh, the sacred and personal name of Father. Brown Driver Briggs (BDB) Theological Dictionary allows the yod to be possessive, and reads Yah Is (My) Father. Jones Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names does too, and reads Father Of The Lord (which is theologically only possible is the father denotes a figure of authority, whos been placed in office by the Lord — a rather inelegant translation). New Open Bible Study Edition (NOBSE) Study Bible Name List thinks the yod is not possessive but part of יה, and reads Yahveh Is Father.
